Sanctuary Rarotonga on the Beach (Adults Only)

Plenty of choice but the intrusion of birds flying into the area and eating scraps of serving spoons was yuk! The solution was to use an extra breakfast spoon to dish up

I did not like that we were in room 6736 which was a long distance up tile ramps from the main reception. These ramps were wet and sandy and I found unsettling to walk on. I am in my 70s and while the access didn’t affect my husband I found it difficult. The majority of our family group were down at beach level and so it was us going down to them to meet up

Amazing location. Beautiful view even from your bed! Great snorkeling area. Lovely staff, so friendly. Good breakfast every morning with both hot & cold options. Food & drinks all reasonably priced.

Swim up bar could do with some upgrades so you have staff at the bar. There were a lot of people who sat at the swim up bar trying to get the attention of staff for a drink. The servicing of rooms were hit & miss. Our first couple of days our room wasn't serviced, and then when it was there was times our bed wasn't made. For the price of the accommodation I would have expected better.

The staff at Sanctuary Rarotonga are extremely helpful and friendly. We liked that the room was very clean with a beautiful view. We paid extra for the beach view, and it was so worth it! Also, having a swimming pool without any children in it was awesome. The buffet breakfast choices are of good quality and variety.

Didn't like the car parking lot. It is not on a sealed surface.

The resort is in a great location. Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is quite good with the usual continental options available, along with freshly cooked eggs to your liking, pancakes, and a few other hot items. The room is comfortable, although a little dated. Shower pressure was excellent, and the bathroom overall was a good size. From our room to the beach, it was a short stroll. Coffee and tea available in the room. Snorkelling equipment available (snorkels and fins in room, while reef shoes were at reception). You could go next door to the Rarotongan and have breakfast, lunch and dinner, if you wanted. Just charge back to your room at Sanctuary. You have a leaflet delivered each evening to say what is happening the next day. They have a $10 credit daily if you don't have your room made up - good idea (see below). WiFi is available and free to use. Totally recommend getting a rental car or scooter. There is a bus service, but your own car gives you complete freedom and it's very easy to navigate the one road around the island.

We didn't get the ground floor room after requesting 11 months in advance. After contacting someone via the Booking.com message service, we did get moved to a ground floor room 2 days later. There isn't a lot of clothing storage, nowhere to dry cossies. An outdoor rack would have been brilliant. The TV in our ground floor room didn't work, got it fixed, then it didn't work again. I found the configuration wrong (if I was at the wardrobe, my husband couldn't get past between the bed and wardrobe). We found the restaurant area a little dull, the food was good, but not exceptional. As I said, you can get a $10 credit for not having your room made up, but ... we had our sign out one day and by 4pm, we took it off the door. We had our room made up twice, maybe three times in the 7 days, not because we didn't want it done, but because the cleaners seem a little slow getting to rooms. Never did get a credit, that I know of. WiFi was a little sketchy at times. It would just drop out, but in saying that, I'm sure there were a lot of people using it.

Great stay and great location.

Well set out rooms and loved the lagoon.
