Sonas Guesthouse

The guest house is a handsome Victorian/Edwardian building set over 3 floors. First impressions were very good with many period features preserved such as the iron staircase balustrade and a fabulous encaustic tile floor in the entrance. It is situated on East Mayfield, a quiet side road off Minto Street - one of the main roads into Edinburgh. The local houses are lovely period properties of all shapes and sizes. When we were there, all the trees were in blossom and tulips were out in gardens, making it very colourful. A bus stop across the other side of Minto Street provides frequent bus services into Edinburgh city centre and (depending upon the service) can take you beyond to places like Leith and Portobello. If you are happy to walk, you can walk into the city in about 25 minutes, passing a variety of eateries, pubs, shops etc on the way. We enjoyed both the Abbey pub and La Casa (tapas/Greek restaurant) in the Newington area on the walk in. Our room (Room 6) was on the top floor, up 2 long flights of stairs. There is no lift. Provided you are ok with that, the room was lovely and quiet being on the top floor. The large sash window faced to the rear with good views over the surrounding streets. Being in the eaves, headroom was naturally restricted near the window but was otherwise very good. The double bed was very comfy and the room was in good decorative order. We had a stool and armchair so we could sit somewhere other than the bed. The room was well served with power sockets. The showerroom was nice and clean. It had a large, long shower tray. Being over 6 ft tall, I appreciate that sort of extra space. Whilst the guesthouse no longer serves breakfasts, they do provide a daily breakfast bag. Typically this contains 2 pain au chocolats, 2 drink cartons, 2 porridge pots, 2 small packs of biscuits (like hard flapjacks). Fresh fruit was also available downstairs in the entrance hall. This was all excellent.

There was nothing to dislike.

El alojamiento tiene una buena ubicación, a unos 15-20 min a pie de la Royale Mile, en general está muy bien, además el trato del personal y los detalles que tienen con el huésped son de 10. No hay ruidos y las paradas de autobús están a dos minutos.

Mi habitación era individual y el baño que era de la habitación tenía que salir de la habitación cada vez que quería ir, además estaba abierto con lo cual dejar todos mis artículos de aseo, maquillaje y demás, me sentía rara ya que en la misma planta había otra habitación en el pasillo... No sé ese detalle me hizo la estancia un poco incómoda. Pero aún así lo recomiendo 100% Ha sido un descubrimiento muy bueno.

Die Zimmerausstattung war sehr schön und einladend. Der Service war auch super.

Schade dass es so gar keinen persönlichen Kontakt gab zu den hosts…

Sonas guesthouse was lovely and really comfortable. We had everything we needed and the breakfast hamper was a lovely touch. The location was perfect, just a short bus ride from the city. We will definitely stay here again.
