Hôtel Le Sokhamon

Interesting architecture, great location, friendly staff, WiFi was spotty at best.

Je moet er van houden, maar prachtig over-the-top art deco hotel met schitterend zwembad en terras aan zee, vooral schitterend bij zonsondergang. Prima Libaees eten, maar rest keuken is minder. Neem wel een zeezicht kamer, is zeker extra geld waard tov patio kamer.

le grand plus de l'hôtel c'est sa situation face mer, superbe, et son personnel de salle. Par contre, l'hôtel est franchement trop bizarre, et le tour au détriment du confort. En ce qui me concerne, chambre coté rue, donnant sur une immense salle. Les fenêtres ne filtrent aucun bruit. Il suffit que quelqu'un parle pour être réveillé. Un essai qui ne se renouvellera pas en ce qui me concerne.

Hotel Sokhamon was hands-down the worst value for the money I've spent on a hotel. It had many great aspects, though! STAY FOR: The hotel is walking distance to Dakar center and has beautiful, unobstructed views of the Atlantic Ocean to Dakar's west. It's bar/restaurant was always lively before sunset. The design and architecture were the most unique I've seen in a hotel. The staff was very friendly. DON'T STAY FOR: It was nearly impossible to get an internet/WiFi connection inside or outside, and was slow when successful. The hotel is dusty, unkept, and empty; there were two other guests during our stay. After being harassed by mosquitoes for two nights, we asked for a mosquito net for the third night, which a friend had in his room - didn't happen. There's no concierge - the hotels.com page is inaccurate - and you'll have to find your own good time (without WiFi) and ask to use the hotel's phone. The hotels.com profile says that the airport shuttle is 10.000 CFA per person; we three paid 35.000 CFA. We booked a return with a taxi for 21.000 CFA. The hotel restaurant ran out of breakfast the first morning we stayed - we asked why our earlier arriving friend received a larger breakfast, were reluctantly served more items after our query, and noted that a later arriving couple left angrily because no breakfast remained for them. OVERALL: At nearly $200/night for a sea view room, we unreservedly recommend looking elsewhere for your accommodations in Dakar.

Their information regarding accommodation, pillow menu, prices of rooms and so on were different when we arrived. when I informed the concierge about that my order on Hotels.com and what I got was different he said that it was an issue between me and Hotels.com. They were not interested in correcting anything without additional payment.. The only good thing with this stay was the restaurant just beside the hotel, good food and an infinity pool

This is the most original and beautifully designed hotel and I have ever been in over many years of traveling.

I stay at the Sokhamon every time I go to Dakar. Other hotels may be more luxurious or modern (eg Terrou-Bi) but the unique architecture, beautiful seaside location, and wonderful sitting areas keep me coming back. There's no better place to enjoy a drink outside as the sun sets over the ocean.
