"Most unprofessional staff ever"

2.0

Since most of the hotels in Tønsberg was booked this weekend I call Maritim thursday (day before arrival) and booked a room for two persons for two nights. I got a price of 2490 NOK. At the check in the manager ask if I colud pay in front, OK I said but now the price was 4980 NOK (this was not the same guy that I spoke with on the phone). I told him that the agreement was 2490 NOK for both night and asked if he colud call the guy that worked the day before. He did and I got to talk with him to ensure that there was no misunderstanding. He confirmed what I was saying and I gave the manager the phone so that he also could get this confirmed. But even thoug his colleague confirmed my story the manager still demanded 4980 NOK, refering to his pricelist. I told him that since one of his staff had made a deal the hotel had to give us this price, whatever his pricelist said. The manager got mad started trowing pens and smashing his keyboard. Other guests behind me was shocked (me as well). I told him that if the price was 2490NOK/night I would never have been here, the Quality Hotel 200m away is cheaper than that and has a much higher standard!! This is one place I never will return to, I'll grade the roomstandard to two stars, but with that staff one star is to much in total. Stay away!!

"Good breakfast - but little else! 1 Star hotel at best!"

2.0

Hotell Maritim was massively disappointing - other reviews are completely correct. Do NOT stay here unless there is absolutely no alternative. PLUS, you pay up front on arrival - so have little alternative but to remain there even after you see your ghastly room! We were "greeted" by surly and very unfriendly staff - who we had to try to find upon arrival and to attempt to check in. This was the case later when we attempted to find out about wifi access. On departure, the reception desk was manned by another chap and he was more friendly - so have to assume the original staff were doing jobs they were not normally paid to do! There is NO hotel information anywhere or local tourist information - and certainly not in our rooms; which were empty of everything apart from the very basics. For example no bedside lights in my single (ghastly) room. I was travelling solo and my room was beyond basic - though did have WC and separate shower which had modern equipment but flooring was very old. But have to say in fairness that my family next door were in a double and quite large and comfortable bright room with settee and table also. Whereas the rest of the hotel was very dusty etc our rooms were clean though. Building works were going on - and our first night there on the Saturday the drilling and hammering was happening up till 21:30! Thick dust everywhere in reception area - and the small meeting area there covered with old food and crockery for the full time we stayed there. Nobody had attempted to remove or clean up there - looked awful. But breakfast was good (cooked breakfast available though only on one morning). Worst hotel I have stayed in ever!

"Worst hotel ever!!"

2.0

There was no other avalible hotelrooms in Tønsberg so i had to stay at maritim hotel. They only had a 3person room so i had to pay 5700nok for three nights. To make a long story short i had to change hotelroom three times the first day because the rooms i was given where dirty and full of garbage! There is loud noise from the renovating from 16.00-24.00 every day! The cleaningstaff don't clean the rooms before 16.00-18.00 in the afternoon. The staff is rude and the whole hotel is covered in dust from the rebuilding. Never again!!

"a special experience, somewhat negative that is"

4.0

Normally I read comments from other travelers before I book a hotel, but in this case, needing a room during the Christmas days, I did not as already happy to have found a room in the first place (my usual hotel was fully booked, so indeed 2nd choice). Looking at the comments now, I can agree with most of them: payment upon check in, Chinese owners, paintings not everybody would like etc. However I would like to add a few remarks. The hotel is indeed being renovated, but could not find out as to what exactly, as said, I was/am there during Christmas days. What did struck me, no breakfast served in the morning, could no see a soul at reception and dining room, and that already for 3 mornings ( in my case I did not bother, as early on my way to my friends). Had to open the front door myself. Upon arrival, receptionist indeed speaks poor English ( luckily I speak some Norwegian, which she did as well) The room indeed very basis, but was clean, the bed ok and, an excellent pressure on the shower!! Better than I experienced a couple of days ago in a 4 star chain hotel property.... The room also had a little fridge for own use, not stocked. Flat screen TV, however some channels, like BBC, not in working order. All in all, a bit of a strange experience, but at the end, I slept well and that was my nr 1 priority! However do have to mention, free parking! And that is not to be ignored, as the better hotels do not offer same. Cannot judge the restaurant, as closed due to festive season?! I can only wish the management success with the renovations

"This is Not a genuine Maritim"

2.0

I choose to stay here believing it was a Maritim. I have stayed in Maritims on many occasions and they are of a good 4 star standard. This hotel is using the Maritim name and a very similar logo. IT IS NOT A MARITIM. In reality I would class this as 1 star. The rooms are poor and the bathroom basic and tatty. I should have taken notice of the trip advisor warnings. I will never stay here again. The only fortunate thing is that I am here for one night only. Be warned this place is not what it seams, it's a dump and frankly should be reported to trade descriptions.

"Not surprised."

4.0

I had been reading the previous reviews for this hotel so I was prepared for an interesting stay, forced to stay due to all the other hotels being full in Tonsberg only for 2 night so how bad could it be. First thing which I found a little strange was that normally you hand over your credit card for pre-approval, ha ha not here the full rate was charged straight to my card on check in. I then went up to my room to the sound of drills, saws and hammers they where redoing the room opposite my room, or actually what was meant to be my room but it turns out they had stored all the furniture from the room being renovated in the room I was originally given. I mentioned this to one of the Chinese workmen who preceded to start banging on the next rooms door, after no answer he opened the door for me and said ''you take this room'', I then had to go downstairs and get another key for my new room, no sorry for the trouble nothing. The room are like little apartments in fact that's not strictly true, they are like very very small apartments. Room was very warm due to no ac and after opening the window I could hear all the staff talking outside in the car park at the rear of the hotel. Breakfast was limited but sufficient, only the manager who was also behind the front desk was around during breakfast. At least I had free parking, but I had to make sure I was there as soon as I could be as there where limited spaces. Since I had settled the bill on check in, check out was extremely easy just dropped the key in the key box. One of the most interesting hotels I have stayed in in Norway, but honestly unless like me you don't have a choice, I would give it a miss.

"Low standard. Very expensive! Good location"

2.0

We booked late on dates when the town was full of activities so we did'nt have much option when it came to booking a hotel. We had to pay at arrival and we understood why when we got to the room.... The room was clean but very old and tattered. Everthing was squeaky, the doors, the beds, the windows, the flooring etc. We think that previous guests backed out when seeing the rooms... But we were sporty and stayed (did'nt have much option:)). The manager and his wife were friendly asians and very serviceminded but the hotel really needs an upgrade. It's more like a hospice. All the toiletries were from asia, large bottles og cheap suff that smelt really bad!. The breakfast was poor. We don't think that many of the guests return to this hotel.

"Well...."

4.0

I have stayed in worse hotels, but than for a tenth of the price - and that was ok. Probably a cool place in the 70'. Bad service, a lot of noise, to hot, small rooms, garbage in the damaged closet, noisy beds, tacky art. If everything else is full....

"Pulp fiction hotel stay"

6.0

What a strange hotel! It was like stepping into a David Lynch or Quentin Tarrantino movie. The receptionist was also a waitress in the sushi bar across the hallway and was running in between. The hotel was also importing vitamin pills, displayed in the hallway with several huge roll-ups and displays. Chinese decor with fake sushi plates in glass/plastic. Rooms were clean, with wooden floor but with tacky chinese decor. Bathrooms awful. Service under middle. My advice is to stay here if you get a very good price, or if everything else is booked.
