Gokulam Grand Turtle On The Beach

The location was good . Good views from the room . Breakfast was good but not exceptional . Staff were friendly and helpful.

I paid $ 251 (Rs 21,000 approx ) for a one night staycation in a Duplex room for3 adults, purpose of the trip being a special outing for my 92 year old mother in law. It is advertised as five star hotel . The first room we checked into, was dirty , had stained curtains in the bathroom and tub wasn’t clean and washbasin clogged .The tub also had mouldy grout and the whole bathroom lacked maintenance . The staff quickly changed us into another room, which was cleaner but the tub again had so much mould in the grout and tiles and it was black around the taps. The bedsheets instead of being crispy and white was soft and dull grey , well past their shelf life. And there was a tear too . They offered to move us to a third room which was smaller suite on a different floor , newly renovated but without the exceptional view we had from this room . We decided to stay in this room and not use the tub. Fortunately we had showered before arriving and we live just 15 km away in the city ! I do not understand how they can justify the state of this bathroom/ tub. We went to the restaurant and there were house flies in the restaurant roaming freely . I pointed it out to the waiters , who thought it was not a big deal. Remember, this is a five star rated place . The breakfast was decent but shared enthusiastically by houseflies , sitting on all the open pastries .The table mats had sticky residues of food from the past. We were happy to check out and go home to take a shower . It was supposed to be a memorable change for my mother in law . Ended up being memorable for all the wrong reasons

The hotel staff are not briefing the guest properly. They need hospitality training. The food is also average . Though I have visited two other gokulam grand at kumarkaom and coorg where food was fabulous

This is a very well run hotel with exceptional service by a kind and generous staff without exception. They are a very well organised team. The pool was relaxing and food very nice. My only ‘area for improvement’ is the breakfast menu. We ate predominantly superb Indian food during our stay, however preferred an English type breakfast of which there were some small aspects but generally a very basic menu. Perhaps tomatoes, mushrooms, boiled eggs would have offers something more. There were omelettes which were a little bland for my taste. Just a small point which doesn’t affect our overall experience at this nicely run, high service establishment.

On check in we noticed renovation works being carried out next to our room. We accepted works needed to be completed but the 2nd day into our holiday varnishing works in the next room were being done which left a very strong lingering smell in our room which was unbearable. After talking with the Reception staff they offered an alternative room which we took. Room very spacious and clean with a great view of the coast line, Nice breakfast and Hotel facilities good. All staff very friendly and welcoming.

Excellent service, staff very helpful, hotel in good location. Breakfast was very good, huge choice of Indian and western food.
