Hampton Inn & Suites Amelia Island-Historic Harbor Front

Our one night stay at the Hampton Inn and Suites started out well enough. The hotel seemed to be an older property which has been updated. Perhaps the plumbing should have received more attention during the remodel though. The morning of our departure, I pulled the diverter on the spigot in the bathtub/shower to turn on the shower and it came off in my hand. The diverter seemed to be rusted or old and it was not attached to any mechanism inside the spigot. I nor my husband were able to shower. I called the desk to explain the situation and was told that Maintenance would be sent to our room. After about 30 minutes, Maintenance had not come to help us. My husband went downstairs to get a cart for our luggage and inquired about help for the shower. He was told that Maintenance was "not in yet " (by this time it was almost 8:00 a.m.) We had a six hour drive ahead of us and needed to get on the road. I asked the person at the desk for our Hilton points to be returned since we had to leave without having taken our morning showers. She was very nice and told me that the points would be returned but that the manager would have to take care of this and that he would be in later in the day. After calling the hotel to speak to the manager over the next two weeks, I was never able to speak to him and he never returned my calls as I requested. I contacted Hilton Honors. After starting a claim, I was subsequently told that by a Hilton Honors representative that whomever she spoke with at the hotel said that there were no issues with the shower and that they would not be returning any of my points. I was very disappointed by the suggestion that I lied about the shower not working and by the lack of communication with the manager of the hotel.

I spend 3 nights at this property while in the area for business. The hotel is ideally located, with lots of shopping and restaurants within walking distance. The waterfront rooms have a lovely view! The complimentary breakfast was very good, with a variety of options that changed daily.

Girl with green hair behind the counter needs a new personality to deal with clients. So blah, no smile, wrong business, wrong island. Coffee was awful, had to walk to Amelia coffee shop every morning. Hotel needs more upgrades, shower was stained and gross. carpet needs intense cleaning or LVP flooring for easy disinfecting.

We spent two nights at this charming hotel. The property feels more like a boutique hotel than a Hampton Inn. We were in just a standard room, but the property does have some suites, a few even have balconies. They had a manager's reception in the evening in the breakfast area, which is on the second floor, overlooking the pool. Went out on the pool deck for sunset over the harbor and the view was simply stunning. There seems to be ample parking and they have an overflow lot, too. Street parking used to be free, but that's changing soon. Tip: If you park in the back by the railroad tracks and the harbor, there are some covered parking spots, a covered smoking area, and a back door to get in and out of the hotel that's more convenient than dragging your belongings around to the front entrance. The location can't be beat. There are like five restaurants right across the street from the front lobby. The historic district is fantastic for strolling, eating/drinking, shopping, or just people watching. Very pet-friendly and I can't believe how many places serve ice cream there! Everyone is walking around eating ice cream! Many stores have to post signs stating you can't bring your ice cream inside! Great happy hour at a place called "The Patio" a few blocks away. Get the Drunken Cheesy Bread. Thank me later. I was kinda surprised that the marina area behind the hotel seems so depressed, with a shuttered restaurant/store building that once must have been the crown jewel on the waterfront. But there is construction nearby on what we were told will be a new boardwalk to help revitalize the marina. Maybe that building is scheduled for renovations, too. And the pirate statue outside of the visitor center is gone! A sign said it was taken for restoration at a museum. There are plans for a new pirate statue on that boardwalk they're building. This hotel is impossible to book for the annual Shrimp Festival. I called to get on the waiting list last July. Repeat guests get first dibs at reservations... I guess they never had to pull anyone from the waiting list. So, we decided to just visit now during a slower time of year. Glad we did.
