Comfortable hotel located in the West End. No lift

Room was very big, however lacked in facilities. No toiletries, no iron and also no breakfast due to all the tables being full. We had payed for breakfast so was very disappointing.
Stayed at the Clifton the night of an event at the Oran Mor, which was such a convenient location, literally a 2 minute walk away. The hotel was lovely, the staff, particularly the woman on reception, were lovely and very helpful. Breakfast was included and was also very nice. The room was bigger than expected considering it being a small hotel. Can't fault anything about the stay, would definitely recommend and would stay there again!
Upon arrival, the man working there, who appears like he may own the Clifton, was not the most polite- he even made a few sexist jokes. When checked in, we found the room to be dirty. The carpet was filthy with lots of stains, the walls in the bathroom looked like they had never been washed,and there was hair in the tub and on the towels. There was no toilet paper, and no shampoo or conditioner. The wifi did not work at all, andthe beds felt you were sleeping directly on the springs. The two positive things were that it came with a very hearty Scottish breakfast and that the location was not bad and is by the botanical gardens.
I need to know in advance if I will be on the 3rd floor, this is a deal breaker. If I don't have the choice, someone has to offer to carry my bag up. Also, cracked basin, no plug, in room. Door lock shonky, security minimal. Shared bathroom horrid, floor shiny, bath slippery, long hairs in bath.

The room was clean, but the shower was kind of moldy with a weird door that always made water flood the floor. The WiFi was totally unreliable which was frustrating. Great location. Breakfast was delicious. Staff was friendly and helpful.
