鉄板焼きが、以前に来た時より良くなかった。

Fantastic view over Lake Ashi and when clear could see Mt. Fuji from our room. Very comfortable, friendly staff, peaceful location, nice breakfast and good food options within the hotel. There are also a few restaurants within walking distance with good food. Note that the area is quiet at night as you are away from the city. We rented a car from a nearby train station and it was great exploring the area, however there are some buses and Uber / taxi may also be available. There is ample parking available and you can take the "pirate ship" right outside the hotel.

The room was huge with an exceptional view down the lake - we could see Mt Fuji on clear days. The beds were comfy. Every convenience provided in the room. We were offered welcome drinks each evening and there was a tea/coffee station available throughout the day. The breakfast buffet was very varied and generous - particularly enjoyed the pancake machine! The garden area was nice with hammocks and varied seating to enjoy being outside with a view of the lake. The staff were very friendly and so helpful. The whole building is elegant and has a nice atmosphere. Well-situated next to the ferry (pirate ship) and a bus stop to connect you to the rest of Hakone.

We ate in the hotel restaurant on the first night and it was quite disappointing. We didn't eat in the hotel the rest of our stay. We weren't permitted to use the onsen because we have tattoos. I know this is a cultural difference but it rankles a bit as we pay the same rate as other guests who can enjoy the full use of facilities. The garden area was AstroTurf. It's a very small thing but it seems a shame in an area of such natural beauty to coat the lake-side garden in plastic.

Our room (206) had a horrific strong smell like an old house that had been locked up for decades, or sun burnt plastic. The shower, no matter how careful you are, floods onto the bathroom floor, soaking your foot mat. I am pretty sure these rooms would have to be riddled with mold. Seriously outdated hotel, a little spooky in that sense. The food in the bar was atrocious (duck was like jerky), and the other restaurants extremely expensive for what they serve. The positive about such a terrible room is that it makes you go out and sightsee a lot more, to avoid being there. I advise staying closer to the town, and visiting the lake when you want, everything is much closer to town, especially decent food.
