"Breakfast Poor Service"

8.0

We came to a wedding on the 27th December and stayed one night until the 28th December after having a lovely day at our friends wedding ,we was very disappointed with the breakfast we thought the warmers wasn’t being being filled according, our friends who was also at breakfast at the same time waited ten mins for the chef/staff to fill the warmers up also I went 5 mins later and there wasn’t any fried eggs left and there was only 2x sausages and 2x bacon in that warmer after paying over a hundred pound for the room and breakfast we thought it was quite disgraceful,we can not fault the food at the wedding breakfast but the breakfast on the Sunday 28th was not being filled up adequately plus there was only one staff giving out coffee and tea ,we all decided to go for breakfast at 9am but the breakfast started at 8am till 10am but there really wasn’t enough food to go around and it wasn’t acceptable ,but I wanted to let you know this was very disappointing after having a lovely wedding

"4 Star in Looks but not in service - All show and no substance."

2.0

Pre Booking Experience So we stayed early January and i had spent 45 minutes trying to phone the hotel and no-one answered either the reception or booking line phone the night before, this should have acted as a warning. I had a specific room request and needed to check before booking. In the end i had to book from their website and use hotel info to book. Arrival We arrived at the hotel at 10.30 PM after a 5 hour drive and just wanted to get some food and sleep. No one on reception, we had to go into bar to fetch someone Food We were told that there was no breakfast available in the morning due to a wedding being set up in the dining room. We were offered a "breakfast bag" - not really an alternative to a hot breakfast The restaurant was shut, fair enough The website advertises room service at selected hours a) No one answered in either Room Service/Concierge/Food b) No room service menu in the room - so clearly not offered Cleanliness of General Hotel In the lift were dirty towels on the floor from the SPA Room Quality We checked in one of the Van Dyke Suite - one of the most expensive rooms in the hotel (only ones available at time of booking) and noticed the bed was really small, looked like a double. I spoke to reception and she switched us to another room and tried to debate with me that the bed size was bigger than a king size.... I have stayed in this hotel before and know there are plenty of king size beds, or at least 2 single beds put together to make a larger bed. I was told i could either have the room i had booked or this new room We took the new room, as we were so tired. Cleary they weren't expecting anyone in the room. Room Cleanliness a) Used dirty pillow case with erm "mud", lipstick and other substances on the bed b) Dressing table and stool covered in blond hair c) Only one towel in the room Room Facilities a) Don't expect at TV which you can watch. It only does radio b) No Room Service c) Dressing stool so low - you can't even see your face in the mirror d) Only one bedside light - not helpful if your want to read As we came down in the morning, the dirty SPA towels still in the lift Complaint I spoke to the manager in the morning and said i felt this was NOT a £149 room, at best £99 lower value room and wanted a refund for the difference. I was met with "you booked via expedia" so you need to complain to them - we can't refund you directly. The team were took preoccupied with the wedding in the other room and couldn't wait to get rid of us Be warned - i booked directly from their website and the EXPEDIA link is hidden in the reservation list. Expedia are a nightmare to try and deal with, as they say the complaint for service is with the hotel, as the room was technically provided. I will just vote with my feet, we have to stay in the area regularly for family, so will look to other hotels in the area - I think the Premier Inn was better Summary - if you come out of "Season" or are are not part of a wedding group, they are not set up to service you and don't have the staff numbers to service The hotel looks very instagrammable, but the service is NOT a 4 Star

"Our Wedding Day - 19/12/25"

10.0

Having booked our wedding at Wildes, we were disappointed to receive an email a few months later advising that the prices were to be increased for any additional guests however, this didn't prevent us from having the most amazing day of our lives. I guess the lesson learned here was to check the small print. The pre-wedding meetings and, day itself all went to plan - massive thank you's to both Liberty and Jack for your input, expertise and, dedication beforehand and, of course, throughout the day/evening itself. The venue (Bowden Chapel) was the perfect setting for us, due to the number of people invited and, suited the live music we hired - thank you Andy O'Brien for a fantastic day and, evening of entertainment. The food was on time, tasty and hot, the service staff were polite and, helpful - again Jack Kirby leading this team of people. It was also a nice touch from Liberty, despite not working to call in and see us. To conclude, an absolutely beautiful day that couldn't have gone any better - thank you everyone ❤️

"Overpriced and Poorly Staffed"

2.0

Just had a dreadful lunch at this establishment. Coke flat and had to be returned with 2nd attempt only marginally improved, £14 pate starter a disgrace as it was not as advertised and such a small portion for such a large price tag, parsnip soup advised by waitress was in fact leek and to add insult to injury as we were leaving a waitress shouted ' Ladies have you paid' in the lounge area where other diners could hear. Suffice to say we will not be returning.

"Disappointing"

6.0

We were invited to attend a wedding at the venue so decided to take the opportunity to stay at the hotel given its 4 star status and spa. The wedding itself was beautiful and an amazing day and night was had by all. On arrival we were held in the old reception area which wasn’t particularly warm and inviting. Upon ordering a Gin and Tonic (single) and a glass of Prosecco myself and my husband nearly fell through the floor when the bartender requested payment of £23. The pumps at the bar in the room being used for the wedding weren’t working resulting in the bar tender running back and forth into another room to serve anything on draft and long waiting times to be served, consequently the bartender spilled a round of drinks all over the reception area. A member of staff decided that throwing a load of blue paper towels on the floor and sticking a yellow slippery floor surface sign up was adequate instead of clearing it up properly. The ceremony and after party were to be held in the same room, after the ceremony the staff were taking 6ft diameter tables through the wedding party / bar area to set up which we felt was a really poor solution given there was enough space at the back of the room or even the adjoining conservatory area for them to be stored prior to the ceremony commencing to avoid this. After our first drink experience we decided it must be cheaper to buy a bottle of wine surely. How wrong were we £40 for a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and not even a good bottle at that, we’ve had better from a £6-£7 bottle from a supermarket. My husband asked a manager if the fire could be lit in the reception area and was made to feel like it was too much trouble but they did eventually do it. On a positive note the food served was great. The hotel room, I expected better given the room rate and 4 star status but the reality was the bathroom needed a deep clean and some repairs. I wasn’t expecting to see pink and black mould in the tile grout and shower screen seals. It was a shower over a bath set up but the plug mechanism was broken so water wasn’t draining so my husband had to remove it, same with the sink. Generally a very disappointing hotel experience overall.
