The Red Lion Hotel

Fully met expectations with friendly and welcoming staff. Great location for a walk down to the River Wye.

It would be better if the rooms were spruced up during the course of a two-night stay.

We were made to feel welcome, and nothing was too much trouble. Excellent evening meaks beautifully cooked.

The room was comfortable and the location was peaceful with walks nearby.

The hotel was advertised as dog friendly. On the first morning the landlord told me that our dog wasn't allowed in the breakfast room, understandably, but was then told that dogs couldn't be left alone in the bedroom while we had breakfast. Also, I didn't realise, until we received the bill that breakfast wasn't included. As we are very light breakfast eaters the charge seemed high, in all fairness we could have had a 'full' breakfast if we had wanted.

Everything was better than expected. We will stay again if in the area.

The setting was peaceful with a lovely garden. We stayed in a room outside of the pub itself which gave us superb facilities. The staff were very professional and friendly. Dinner was great as was breakfast and we loved it so much we have booked to return!

We didnt dislike anything. Desserts at dinner seemed less homemade than the rest of the dinner which was disappointing but not enough to dislike !

quirky "retro" furnishings, very spacious shower room (great water pressure for the shower), comfortable beds, excellent location for Hay-on-Wye, where we went each day for the festival, great desserts, and good breakfasts.

Room service was unfinished on one day (no beds made) and completely non-existent on another day, as it was clear that no-one had been to - e.g. - clean the basin, provide clean cups replenish tea/coffee bags, milk, etc., make the beds. One night, the occupants of the room no. 1, which was next to ours, woke us up by banging shut the door, and at about 3.30 in the night, started a loud and prolonged "domestic", with crying, screaming and - eventually - leaving, banging the door again, followed half an hour later by an other departure, with a loud door closing!!! Not much sleep was enjoyed by my friend and I!!
