252 Beachside Motels & Holiday Park

Save yourself a headache (and asthma attack.... literally) and go elsewhere! We're a family of 5 travelling NZ and booked a family cabin at the Beachside Motels & Holiday Park for $140. It was honestly the most filthy place we've stayed in, so much so I felt compelled to leave a review to save others the misfortune of booking here. The room itself smelt of pee & mould, very run down and you could feel the hard springs in the mattresses of the beds ...so if you're looking for a goodnight sleep...forget it! We expressed our disappointment to the receptionist the afternoon we arrived and asked to be moved to something cleaner but she said it was full so she offered us a $20 discount. We then discovered that the communal facilities where not fit for people to use ...green algae in the showers, black mould everywhere, no shower doors...only flimsy curtains. The kitchen was an extreme health hazard (as pictured) with old blood spilled in the freezer, grime, filth, communal pots unusable...just absolutely filthy. We didn't feel safe for our family to be in there let alone use the facilities so we resorted to wet wipes and eating out. It was too late to find alternative accommodations so we stayed the night and on checkout informed the reception that the facilities were a health and safety hazard, showed her the photos and requested a full refund as we couldn't sleep or use the facilities, to which she laughed and said "You chose to stay" We're appalled at not only the absolute filth of this place but also the attitude of the staff when shown the issues. Do yourself a favor and book anywhere but here.

Nothing like the photos... We checked in and checked right out after 10 minutes of looking around.. didnt even ask for ID or car rego like most businesses would. the cabin door was open. Room was left airing out and a cat was roaming in and out as it pleased. I'm allergic. Went to check out the shared facilities. just a bowl of raw meat left in the kitchen area in a pool of its blood. smelt like it have been there for a few hours. No care, not well looked after. Didn't feel safe.

We had no hot water so no showers or able to do the dishes.

this accommodation should not be on any travel companys' books. its used as a doss house or emergency housing for druggies and the homeless. it was damp and there was mould, the floors are uneven and slope in a number of directions so its like walking on a ship. the furniture and bedding covers were all stained. one of the dining chair backs fell off when we tried to move the chair. the beds themselves are hard as were the pillows. the curtains dont close or hang properly as they have been ripped away from the fittings. when we told the locals where we were staying we were universally told "ohh no!! noone stays there except the druggies and down and outs." we had paid for a premium unit. which obviously this isnt. As a business that could denigrate your reputation as a travel advisor, i would suggest its in your best interest to not support this place.

Nothing, we paid for what we wanted which was somewhere to stay while in Hokitika.
