"Great location but very old, smelly hotel"

6.0

The hotel was under construction while we were there but without any concern to the fact that people were still staying there. It also had a very bad odour in be back corner where we were staying. The room itself was alright, fairly clean with a nice big shower. However we just looked out over the roof. We were going to stay 2 nights but were told on our second day that he did not have our reservation for the 2nd night and there was nothing he could do because it was full. Turned out to be a good thing, we stayed at hotel eugenia instead in the la mariscal district which was 10 times nicer and $5 cheaper.

Einfaches, gutes Hotel an zentraler Lage. In den Zimmern ist es etwas kuehl, aber es gibt einen elektrischen Ofen. Fruehstueck ist sehr lecker.

"Central Location"

8.0

So close to Plaza Grande, where you can get the tourist double decker bus to all good tourist sites. We slept on the street side and were entertained by policeman whistles, folks coming and going to the giant mercado at the end of the block and vendors selling fruit and vegetables. The breakfast is not American standard, but does have scrambled egg, two white bread with either a thin slice of deli ham or a slice of cheese.I was slow on the draw to figure out the coffee, I will let that be a surprise for you. Great wifi.

"Only one complaint"

6.0

The smell of urine coming from the toilet near the stairwell was very bad and found its way upstairs and down the hall. The door was locked during our visit so it seemed that the clerk knew there was a problem. He recommended using the toilet in the hotel's restaurant. Foreigners find this very offensive. The smell of urine was also common on the streets in the historic center, and we saw men urinating in the streets even though public toilets were nearby. While the carpeted rooms were very quiet, the carpeting needs to be vacuumed by a powerful machine to help control dust and dirt.

"Nice Hotel near Plaza Grande"

8.0

The hotel is quite comfortable and the staff particularly helpful. We spent 3 days here at start of our Ecuador visit, and a final night at the end: we would definitely stay here again.

"Fantastic central location; outstanding value!"

10.0

If your looking for an antiseptic modern chain hotel, this is definitely not for you; if you are looking for an amazingly located, authentic slice of Quito this is most definitely the place. The property is clean, and relatively well-maintained, though much like the city itself it could use a little help here and there. That being said it has all of the basic conveniences and provides an atmosphere that bespeaks of another era.

"Hotel Catedral"

8.0

The hotel was in an excellent location in the historic district of Quito. It was easy to walk everywhere in the old part of the city. The hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff were very nice but spoke limited English. You cannot get a wash cloth there, so take your own. I felt very safe in the hotel.

"Great location but very noisy"

6.0

Room was nice size, staff were great. Some heads up, however...shower and bathroom sink fixtures were somehow shorted to an electrical line, such that you got a 120V shock if you touched them while in the shower or using the sink with wet hands. Mgmt sort of shrugged when we brought this to their attention. Bathroom(s) smelled like sulfur - comes from drains...even though really clean, smell was annoying. Rate was great, and included an OK breakfast. Location central to everything. Restaurant is only open from noon to 3pm, so it is useless for evening dining. Noisy street action goes from 5am to 1am daily - constant car alarms, whistles from cops, horns honking and sirens - non-stop and very loud - makes it difficult to sleep. Parking is $15 a day at a garage a block away. I would stay here again, but would request a room not on the front street.
