Quinta do Pego

Pros: The staff are super nice and professional--the dinner servers are especially awesome. You can see from the photos that the views are unbelievable. We were able to use the pool one afternoon and it was delightful. We loved being able to walk the trails through the vineyards. We stayed in one of the "downstairs" rooms that opens right up onto the gorgeous view and had zero problems with noise. The room had everything we needed and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and had plenty of options, including scrambled eggs. The location was awesome for visiting some of the best places in the Douro Valley and we could easily get to the train station in Pinhao. We ordered a "picnic" for two for our journey back to Porto and they gave us enough food for a small army. Cons: The drive up to the quinta from the road is not for the faint of heart. And once you're there, if you want to have dinner somewhere else, it's a bit of a trek. The dinners were delicious so we didn't mind being "stuck" but they were pretty fancy so some people might want other options. We dealt with the difficult driving by not having a car and hiring drivers to take us around, which is a good plan when you're visiting wineries anyway. We highly recommend LAB Tours, who took us all over the region and arranged for amazing private tours and tastings.

Peaceful, gorgeous and sumptuous! Great place to stay in the Douro Valley. Eduardo and Annabelle were very attentive and the rooms were nicely appointed with expansive views of the valley. Go for the view and stay for the first class meals that will delight your eyes and taste buds. Great wines, delicious meals and glorious views!

Just one night was enough for us to enjoy this excellent hotel. A perfect option for wine lovers and wine experience visiting its vineyard, spectacular staff experience as well. Everything awesome.

A beautiful seeing, with great food for the evening meal. High standards throughout. The only inconsistentcy is that I felt the breakfast was average.

The hotel and its staff make your stay very relaxing. Our bedroom had spectacular views down the Douro river. The food was very good and the wine accompanying it was of a high quality.

On arrival we were asked if we needed dinner reservation, I informed them I had already emailed them to make the dinner booking, we were then asked if we had chosen food options but I informed them we were not asked to pre order nor were we sent menus? We were shown a food/wine pairing option & agreed that would be lovely but then were told “oh sorry we don’t have time to prepare that”… Not the friendliest or most professional welcome to say the least! The rooms are very basic & for the high price I would expect much more luxury & maybe tea/coffee facility in room ?!

Excellent facilities and location, with spectacular views. Only problem that I can really think of is that the sun umbrellas by the pool do not work at all when it is windy... which is not so uncommon.

An absolutely wonderful stay! The staff were excellent, informative and extremely accommodating. Wonderful Port tasting available, recommendations for winery tours were right on target, outstanding meals every night at the hotel, local, delicious and elegantly served. Perfect location for a Douro Valley visit. Can't wait for our next visit.
