The Old Bell Inn

Will definitely stay again, was a bit noisy on the Saturday night but was warned that there was a DJ. Lovely old building and one of the best Indian restaurants only seconds up the street and Longleat only minutes away

The room was good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Important to realise though that this is predominantly a pub so good idea to phone ahead and check what they have on that night as we had loud karaoke until midnight. Also if you have children be aware that the ‘restaurant’ is classed as the bar and children have to leave at 9pm but you still get to hear drunk people swearing in the street until the early hours. A pleasant enough place if these conditions suit your needs.

When we arrived we found that the hotel is actually a pub with room above rather than an actual hotel. However we began to check in. Initially they couldn't find our booking and it took half an hour to sort our what was happening. We then began a very long hike to our room around the whole place. When we eventually found our room it turned out to be directly above the bar looking into the high street. We had booked a double, single and sofa bed. The room we were given was 3 single beds and a sofa bed. None of this was brilliant but we checked in and got ready for dinner. We went out to a local restaurant and returned at 9.10pm to be greeted by a burly bouncer outside the front of our previously quiet "hotel". We were told that we weren't allowed in with our children. We explained that we were staying above for the night and were then told "OK well I'll let you in then but you'll have to go straight up to your room as the kids aren't allowed in the bar". We went in and asked if there was anywhere we could sit to play cards and have a coffee etc. We were told no, we would have to go to bed. Despite being quite cross at the situation and the rudeness down to us, we took the children up and tried to make the best of it. However that is when it got even worse. Apparently, we have since learned that Friday night is party night. There was a disco in the room directly below where we were sleeping. Additionally, the pub opposite (which looked perfectly nice during the day) turns into

Staff very friendly and welcoming. Room great with plenty of room for us all as a family of four. Sofa bed a little uncomfortable. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice.

Great location. Old buulding but with good facilities refurbished.

Great location in centre of town. Great breakfast and food all day.

Stayed for 4 nights recently while visiting family and had a great time. Service was great and rooms were clean and tidy. Would definitely stay again.

the hot water was only luke warm not used to cold shower in mornings other wise could not fault the place

Pleasant room, really good shower. Breakfast OK, but a bit 'basic' in the bar in the evening – quieter in the Bath Arms over the road!
