"First of many visits to come"

10.0

The venue itself is really lovely. Bright, clean & welcoming. Newly decorated. The owner was really friendly, polite & helpful. We enjoyed a few giggles & conversations. The breakfast was amazing. The best quality English breakfast we have ever had. Good quality local sausage & bacon, fresh tomatoes & mushrooms, tasty scrambled eggs, blackpudding, fried toast, fresh regular toast, choice of 3 jams, marmalade & butter, fresh orange juice, tea or coffee. Our room number 3 had just been redecorated & included one of the turrets in which the comfortable seating & a large flat screen TV was. Great shower ensuite, kettle & hot drinks items. The hotel has a lovely garden area, with plants, flowers, tables & areas to lock up your bikes. It'd also gated so safe for families. The hotel is on a corner where the streets are quiet & easy to park. There is a small 4 car space car park to the back of the building as well. We are looking forward to visiting again in September.

It was a little disappointing to be told we were unable to have food outside of the breakfast because the kitchen was closed until the end of June. This was because of staffing & out of the main season. Once the kitchen is open from the end of June I'm sure you will enjoy fantastic food. The breakfast was definitely an 11/10! I really don't think the other meals would differ in quality.

"Friendly pub/hotel, good for Coast Path walkers"

8.0

Very friendly and helpful owners. We arrived like drowned rats after a very wet day on the South West coast path but were made to feel very welcome. Although the kitchen wasn't open (they are aiming for June), we were pointed in the direction of nearby fish & chips and they provided us with plates, cutlery etc - and we could buy excellent beer from their bar. Plus we had the added attraction of a darts match as entertainment! Nice big room and excellent traditional cooked breakfast.

The location is good for South West coast path so suited us, but is a 20-30 minute walk from Weymouth harbour and most of the restaurants/facilities (note - this is exactly how it is described so I'm not complaining!) In our room, the (small) shower cubicle was in a separate cut-out from the sink/toilet on opposite sides of the room.

"Unfortunate weather spoilt things , but we had a welcome break nevertheless ."

7.0

Our hostess was very attentive and looked after us well . Our room was superb , and the decor in the hotel was top notch . The heating was put on for us after the first night was chilly . Our breakfast was freshly cooked each morning , and nothing was too much trouble. The Rodwell Path is worth exploring nearby (A former railway track bed ) which goes towards Portland , or the town , and was our first outing after our arrival . We were not able to explore Dorchester as the outskirts had heavy traffic, as we were there during the second week after Easter and it was wet 3 days out of the 4 . However , the Tolpuddle Martyrs Museum was well worth a visit , as was Kingston Lacy (NT) if you like art works in a country house .

On the wash basin was a small hot water heater which didn't function well with only a dribble coming out . I pointed this out during our stay , but it wasn't rectified during that time . The shower only delivered cold water having been run for 5-10 minutes which was also disappointing , but other than these issues our stay was a good one .

Stay was focused on water sports. Good location for easy access to Portland Harbour. Reasonably quiet area , so sleep was not disturbed. Codfather fish and chip shop at the top of the street and a Co-Op opposite it for snacks. Good quality pints available in the bar. Room was spacious and well appointed. Tea and coffee making facilities good. Bed very comfy. Room and on-suite clean. Overall very pleasant.
