"Welcoming and enjoyable stay ..."

10.0

Despite our tour group arriving late (early hours of the morning) all the staff were there to greet us, dressed up in traditional costume and perform their traditional show. All the staff were so welcoming, our room was very nice, we had an anniversary card and flowers waiting for us in our room (as we were celebrating our anniversary). The dining area is large with a Tibetan theme. The hotel is located a short walk away from various parks and gardens where you can see locals in tea houses playing Mah Jong. At the end of our stay the staff came out to wave us all goodbye. Highly recommend this hotel for staff, hotel and location.

"Great Chengdu location"

6.0

The hotel was average. We had a "deluxe" room but it was very small. The neighborhood was what made the hotel great - easy to walk anywhere - lots of nearby shopping, great restaurants, safe, friendly people. The breakfast buffet was also wonderful - its good quality Chinese food for breakfast, but there were Western options as well (eggs, toast, fruit)

"Average"

6.0

As a general rule avoid any hotels that call themselves 'Grand'; this is no exception. The theme is Tibetan and the hotel is located in the Tibetan quarter; you can see the differing styles of dress from their Chinese counterparts. The surrounding area is safe and it's a short walk to Wall Mart for provisions. The hotel itself is disappointing, and really needs an update. Staff are however very friendly and do a little welcoming ceremony involving silk scarves.

"Good location but not nice room."

4.0

This hotel was in a good location. It was cheap to catch a taxi into the city (about 15 yuen) and the neighbourhood was really interesting and safe to walk around. The hotel itself is very tired and quite run down. Our room smelt of smoke and there was a cigarette burn on the chair even though we asked for a non-smoking room. The corridors and elevator also smelt of smoke. Bathroom was filthy. The toilet and bed sheets were clean which was the only reason we stayed instead of finding another hotel. Breakfast was OK.

"Short stay but pleasant "

8.0

The staff were very helpful even if we didn't speak Cantonese or Mandarin. They went out of their way to call a manager who spoke English. The complimentary breakfast buffet was overwhelming. they had western and Chinese options and a little of Tibetan snacks.

"Comfortable, great location for a 2-night stay"

8.0

My family and I (five people) stayed at this hotel for two nights. Though we stayed in rooms that advertised King-sized beds, they were probably the size of Queen beds by North American standards. A roll-away bed costs an additional $30 per night. Rooms were quite spacious and relatively clean (maybe at the 3-star level in the U.S., but definitely far from the 5-star level). The staff spoke minimal English, but were quite friendly. I had little difficulty communicating with them, but that's probably because I have studied Mandarin for just over a year. The location of this hotel is great, with Leanna's (a Western cafe and restaurant) literally across the street from the hotel, and there were plenty of taxis (we saw probably 15-20 of them every minute) to catch when we had to leave for the airport in the morning.

"Friendly Welcome"

6.0

Stayed here as a member of a tour group, and received a charming welcome when we arrived quite late in the evening. Staff assembled in the foyer to greet us; we were each draped with a white scarf and treated to a rendition of a Tibetan folk song. It would be churlish to be critical after that. The room was fine, but a little hot; having struggled with the air con controls, I followed the instructions that said 'in case of difficulty phone reception'.The lovely lady on reception spoke very little English (and why should she...we Brits do get a bot spoiled), but shortly after a confusing conversation in which little was communicated, I received a call back from a colleague who did speak English, and after I explained the problem she said 'perhaps you can open the window'. On reflection this was a piece of pragmatic and environmentally friendly advice, though it wasn't quite what I had hoped for. And she was genuinely trying to be helpful and resolve the problem. That probably summed it up - friendly and willing - and a bit quirky, but not quite getting it right on delivery. The dining room with its wooden representation of Lhasa dominating is something to behold though!

"Has a wonderful restaurant"

8.0

The restaurant has a huge wooden model of Lasa - very impressive. However, the breakfast on our first morning was rather lacking. The bedrooms are comfortable and well equipped, but showing some signs of it's age. The staff are very helpful and gave our group a lovely welcome including a song, even though it was near midnight due to a four hour flight delay. I struggled between three and four stars for this hotel, but just came down on the side of four.

"I'm sure that there are better options in Chengdu"

6.0

Ok place. Our room was nice enough and was very clean. Beds were good. Our safe was locked in an open position. I suppose I could have requested that it be fixed for use, but it was not bolted down so I would not have used it in any case. It took forever for hot water to reach the shower. Slow but passable internet. I wish that this 4-star international hotel had at least one English TV channel. Good location near many good restaurants. The front desk seemed very inefficient and had trouble with my perfectly good international Visa card. Yet my back up card worked... I would look around for a better choice next time I'm in town.
