"Clean, comfortable location, and friendly host!"

10.0

I heard about this B&B from a friend and I am really glad I stayed there. I was in Palermo for a conference but could not afford the fancy hotel that most conference members booked. Castiglia's B&B has a great central location and Giuseppe- the owner- gave me a detailed explanation of how to use the public transportation in the city. The room was excellent! Clean and cozy with private bathroom and a nice shower (the shower is very important to me!). The other thing I need to mention is that I looved their breakfast. I was really appreciative when the owners got out of their way to accommodate my dietary needs. I knew they had a standard breakfast so I did not expect anything fancy but everything they served was delicious! They also gave me some really good suggestions for restaurants. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a peace of mind about cleanliness and accessibility to the city center!

"close to centre and train station"

8.0

B&B is very good situated -near to the train station and city centre. There was no problem of arriving late at nigth. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was big with air conditioning, bathroom small but very clean. Breakfast tasty - warm cornetto, yoghurt, coffee and milk, crackers, jam - and in a good price. The only thing is that it is rather loudly area (cars and scooters are going all the night) but all Palermo is noisy city. And the price could be little bit lower. However we recommend this place.

"Welcoming host, great location for transport connections"

6.0

I did not have a booking and had been wandering around all the decayed areas west of Via Marqueda looking for a room, everything was full. It was getting dark and the streets were looking a bit more dangerous. I saw a young guy with a backpacker pushing the bell at Castiglia and followed him up. I met the owner who very efficiently sorted me out with a room, he also provided information and maps about where myself and my new acquaintance could get a couple of beers and some food. The room was EUR50 and given the excellent location close to the airport bus stand and central Palermo train station I think it was worth the money. The shower was great - very good pressure and the room was clean and it was nice being on the 3rd floor away from street level noises and smells. The area around is interesting - seems like there are a lot of governement and offices around. It was only a short walk to interesting historical sites and shopping streets.

"Clean, friendly, budget option"

10.0

We stayed here, arriving late one night. They were very professional and efficient. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable the shower was good and the room was a good size. Near the train station and although the areas is a bit less fancy, I felt safe even when going to get cash from the bankomat (ATM) at midnight. If you are used to cities, this would be a great place to explore Palermo from, without spending a huge amount on accommodation.

"Clean, welcoming, convenient."

10.0

This was the first B and B we stayed in during our 3 week stay in Sicily and Italy and it was wonderful. Maria and Giuseppe were excellent, helpful hosts who, despite our sketchy Italian, managed to meet our every need. They gave us maps and guided us verbally around the city. One night we got hopelessly lost traveling to another city and were late in returning and they even called us to see if we were okay. The rooms were large, clean, and well ventillated, the bathrooms were exceptionally clean, the breakfasts were great! Yogurt, coffee and fresh rolls, even some fresh fruit, jellies and toasts. We couldn't have been happier. The quirky elevator which has to "rest" between trips added even more charm to the place. Thanks to the lovely hosts and the clean and welcoming rooms, our stay in Sicily was an experience we won't forget.

"Fantastic location, very nice owners"

10.0

I founded this bed & breakfast reading the reviews on Tripadvisor, and I was very happy to stay right in the city-centre in Palermo fro three days, at a walkable distance from everything. Me and my husband, from this excellent location, could visit all the most important monuments and enjoy the real local atmosphere at the top. This B&B is located in an historical ancient building, at the third floor with a lift, so we didn't climb lot of stairs at any time, especially with our luggage. The owners are polite, very friendly and really good people. As many other B&Bs we stayed, we hadn't the front-door keys, but we could enter at any time, during the day and at night, ringing the bell at the bottom of the building: they are really available 24 hours a day, just like a very good hotel. Our rooms was spacious, very clean, with a new ensuite bathroom with shower and also a free wi-fi internet connection, that I couldn't find in my precedent accommodation, so I could spend some hours to reply my e-mails, luckily. In the morning the kind owner served us a very good breakfast, that was the pleasant incoming of each days, before discovering the city. And then, it was absolutely inexpensive: only 60 euros per night for our room in September, really a nice surprise. I highly recommend this excellent bed & breakfast, and the owners, to anyone want to visit the beautiful Palermo!

"Room for improvement"

6.0

We booked this Bed and Breakfast because of its proximity to the main railway station in Palermo, and although the area does not have much of a ‘feel good’ air about it, neither does the building or the street where the B+B is situated, we thought, once inside, it might be a haven from the rawness outside. Unfortunately the ancient lift, which can only manage to carry up two slim people at a time to the third floor, might have seemed fun, but the room we were shown was not. It was very basic and such a let down from the previous nights we had spent in Sicily for the same price. If you are looking for simple student type accommodation then you have it but there were no extras like a place to make a cup of coffee. We had planned to stay two nights but had changed our plans and apparently that put the tariff up from the agreed 60 Euros to 65 per night; also, as we needed to leave just before 8.00am, we weren’t going to get a breakfast, however frugal, either. Apparently this is served in the bedrooms after 8.00am – so no chance to meet other guests. The television was mounted so high on a side wall that it was very difficult to see, but only one channel was working in any case; likewise the DVD player we were promised, which might have provided another source of entertainment, was similarly ‘out of order’. The bathroom, with a shower (no bath), was fine but we imagine if the owner gives the same talented decorative treatment to the rooms as he has lavished on the entrance hall, things would seem a lot better. Also, as they needed to be on call 24/7, because guests must ring the bell every time they wished to re-enter, plus given the fact that the road outside was heaving with people going to work at 6.00am - a cup of coffee and maybe a slice toast at 7.30 was really not really much to ask. We would left feeling a lot happier, and had the breakfast we had to pay for any way but never saw - that would be good customer service.
