"Great spot but would love some sheer curtains"

8.0

We checked in here for five nights to do day treks in the national park. The location is nice and central for walking around the village and for driving further afield. Our room was clean, comfortable and cosy when the weather turned bad. Love the toiletries and there was plenty of hot water and pressure in the shower. Sound proofing between the units was not great but people tended to retire early. However there were no sheer curtains for privacy. So you have the option of having a dark room during the day with heavy curtains drawn or have people walking past your room and feeling like you are on display. (windows are full height). We had unit 3 which was in front of the steps. I guess the assumption is that you will be out all of the time but not possible depending on the weather. Being able to do a bit of self catering in the unit or the communal kitchen is a plus for us.

Location. They provided transport directly to the crossing and back. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff about the area and things to do.

Room was small and dark for 3 of us. Would have booked a 2 bedroom but none were available. Cooking facilities were minimal in the room but they have a large kitchen in the main building that we used.

"Ok for short stay."

7.0

Rustic ski lodge feel. Really helpful staff.

Struggled a bit with allergies set off in the twin room, not sure what it was as room seemed clean with fresh clean linen. Female bathroom sinks blocked. With not a lot of privacy/dressing space for showers (screens helped a bit).

"Great Place to Stay With a Warm Welcome."

10.0

We received such a warm welcome from Gill and Dutchy and their staff. We booked the ‘Freedom Package’ with the intention of completing the Tongariro Crossing trek. As it turned out the weather had other ideas and unfortunately it was not safe for us to do this! However from start to finish we were extremely well looked after! We were upgraded to a private little unit which was perfect for our needs. We were offered helpful local recommendations for eating out (The Station Cafe) and Gill had some great walk options for us away from the mountain. Our breakfasts were fabulous (Gillian’s Bircher Muesli) and the packed lunch was perfect. We chose the ‘Old Coach Road’ walk which took us on a historic journey showing the development of travel from coach travel to railways. This entailed walking through enchanting forests filled with awe inspiring trees and ferns and birds and scenic farmland. Just amazing! Duchy provided the transfers for this and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting him. We ordered Gill’s evening food platter for after our walk - this was very impressive. Gill took a lot of care with it and we can highly recommend this option. Do also take up Dutchy’s wine recommendation if you like a good red! Essentially, if you are going to explore the National Park region in any shape or form then the Adventure Lodge and Motel is the perfect place to stay. Thank you Duchy and Gill 🤩

"Better than expected."

6.0

The kitchen was basic but fully sufficient for our needs. Bathroom, towels and toiletries were top notch.

The kids room was freezing as if wind was seeping in from the windows. We started the air-conditioning in the main room but it took a very long while for the lodge to warm up. We should've started warming up the place much before sleeping, I guess.

I like the kitchen very much and the shared facilities are very thoughtful especially the drying room for wet gears after a raining day

The sound proof is not good as it is already indicated in a notice that after 9pm no entertainment is allowed but our neighbor kept talking at very late night.
