"Nice and quiet"

10.0

This is a good place to stay. And don't forget to take a meal at the restaurant. They serve excellent meals. The city is a good starting point for visiting the Ruhr district and the Sauerland region with its beautiful nature. But above this Gevelsberg itself has a place in European history. Emperor Frederic II 's Chancellor Archbishop Engelbert was slain in 1225 near Gevelsberg and a convent was built shortly after. But you needn't worry, the murderer came from far away, and the Gevelsberg people are very friendy (today) ;-)

"Practical Hotel"

8.0

Gevelsberg apparentley is no city to plan a trip to. So, why go there. There's a lot to do if you like the German history of iron and steel. It started in this region in de 17th century. There are many remains of old mills, hammers, colemines and lots of factories in operation. Also the landscape is beautiful. Great area to spend 2 or 3 days. Now, about the hotel. It's in the centre of Gevelsberg, very close to the main street. It has its own parking lot and a steakhouse sits in the same building. That's great, the food seems to be good, but there's another nice restaurant in G. as well. Called "Saure". Room is clean, has a small fridge, tv. Bathroom ok. Nothing special, but ok. Sound isolation to adjoining rooms is a bit poor. Fruestueck is avarage for 9,50 euro's. Friendly staff. There is an internet computer, 3 euro's per day. Price 50 euro's per night.

"Fun in Gevelsberg"

8.0

I enjoyed the Hotel Alte Redaktion visit. I loved the small town of Gevelsberg and its people and shops. I spent a week there and am going back this year. The hotel people were very friendly and helpful. They spoke English but at the same time helped me with my German. One of the desk clerks (Ela) is very kind and will help make phone calls to find items or souviners you are looking for. They had laundry service which was great and your clothes were back in the evening. The breakfast buffet each morning was very good and the dining area was very nice and clean. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in Gevelsberg. Its also within walking distance to the train station.
