Great boutique hotel. Beautiful views. Tons of great restaurants within 15 min but be prepared for lots of stairs to get back up the hill.

Great view from the pool and kitchen area. AC system works great. Very friendly and helpful staff. The walk up the hill to the hotel is challenging for sure and will get you in shape. If it’s too much, get a taxi from the Malecon. Great hotel

Hotel is on a steep incline. Many steps if you plan to walk. Rooftop pool was nice. Common area with kitchen was a plus as well. We stayed 4 nights here. The AC unit in the room did not work at all. 1 ceiling fan was inoperable as well. Spoke with front desk about our issues. They could not fix the AC but on day 3 they did replace the ceiling fan which helped a little. We had no hot water for 2 out of the four days we were there. They do not have mini fridges in the room we stayed in ( Eclipse 4) . They would have been nice to have for keeping water/drinks cold. For the price point and amenities we would not stay here again.

The hotel has character and charm, could use a bit more TLC. Staff are friendly and helpful. The location of the Luna is great, close to the Malacon and Romantica Zone, although the walk home always involves a steep hill. The breaching whales, visible from our breakfast table every day, were an added bonus. We would stay there again.

A unique property, full of charm and with lovely people running everything smoothly. Each room is so different and the views from all floors is amazing - particularly the pool area. It is a steep climb up to the hotel, which we knew, but so is everything in this charming area. Would definitely stay here again.

"Adequate but would never stay here again"

6.0

The experience of staying here was adequate but seriously lacking in various ways, especially given the price. There was nothing even remotely resembling a concierge service; perhaps that’s asking too much from a Mexican hotel. And the lack of coverage at the front desk was, in my mind, completely unacceptable. Most folks at the desk did not speak English! You do get old world charm here but that comes with many features that cry out for better maintenance and updating. We would not stay here again. There are many better options in Puerto Vallarta for the price. The continental breakfast I guess met the definition of a continental breakfast but just barely. Coffee, a fruit plate and two pieces of toasted white Wonder bread with butter and jam. I am accustomed to continental breakfasts with a lot more options, including various pastries, especially in a hotel in this price range. A serious concern of mine was egress in the event of a fire. The path to many rooms (including our own) is very circuitous (up stairs and then down stairs and then travelling to an adjacent building via a small bridge). The front desk confirmed that the only way of egressing from the building was from the single point of entry (which dangerously requires a key!) . If that path were blocked for any reason, one would be out of luck. I got a chance to look at the room beneath ours and because it was closer to the street, the windows were covered with bars. That would make me very nervous.

"Adequate but lacking in many ways"

6.0

1) Adequate but lacking in many ways given the price: $270 per night. We stayed for 6 nights in the Sirena room in late January 2025. 2) The room is large but poorly utilized. Two small Mexican style leather chairs that are not particularly comfortable for sitting at for any extended period. A small leather-topped table with a large base that makes it awkward to put your legs under it. At least one upholstered chair with a standup lamp next to it would have been a nice feature. The lighting is very poor. Unless one sat awkwardly in bed near the low-lying bedside lamp, one would not be able to read after dark. The bed area has a single ceiling light in one corner that is very dimly lit. Other than the one lamp next to the bed, that was it. The light in front of the bathroom mirror is extremely poor. The shower light was not working. The balcony off of our room was not particularly useable given its size. The wood French doors onto the balcony needed a great deal of work as they closed with large gaps to the outside; during a torrential rain I imagine they would have allowed a decent amount of water into the room. Generally there was a lack of attention to details in the room. Generally there’s an artsy look to the room but it was sorely lacking in many ways. 3) When we arrived in the room there was only one chair in the room and no bar soap or hand soap. No Kleenex tissue. The chair and hand soap were addressed immediately by the charming Beatrice (very sweet). 4) The toilet did not always flush appropriately. The shower was decent (other than the fact that the light was out). Hot water came to the shower quickly but good luck getting hot water from the bathroom sink (I never waited long enough I suppose). The bathroom in particular needed lots of maintenance. 5) The mattress was very firm and comfortable. Some folks might find it too firm (I saw some comments to that effect). 6) The staff were pleasant. But they were not present very often. In a hotel this size (20 rooms?) the front desk should be staffed at all times. The front desk is closed from early evening to morning. I have no idea how we would reach anyone when the front desk was closed, especially if one had an emergency. Many of the folks who manned the front desk (when anyone was there) could not speak any English; that struck me as odd given that the vast majority of their guests were English speaking. There was no “Getting Familiar” literature with the room so one is left entirely lost as to various issues of staying in the hotel. There IS a sign in the room with WIFI connection info. 7) The commons area is very charming to look at but in the end somewhat lacking as well. The so-called upholstered furniture were just pieces of foam covered in fabric with a back that was too far back to be comfortable for sitting. The views are very nice from the dining and pool levels. The pool is more of a soaking pool. We didn’t use it. 8) The continental breakfast I guess met the definition of a continental breakfast but just barely. Coffee, a fruit plate and two pieces of toasted white Wonder bread with butter and jam. I am accustomed to continental breakfasts with a lot more options, including various pastries, especially in a hotel in this price range. We went out to Starbucks several mornings for more options. 9) The steep hill to the hotel was not a problem for us as we saw it as an opportunity to get in our daily constitutional (plus we are reasonably fit in our 70’s). One should be aware that there are approximately 235 steps from the Malecone to the hotel (we counted!). 10) A serious concern of mine was egress in the event of a fire. The path to many rooms (including our own) is very circuitous (up stairs and then down stairs and then travelling to an adjacent building via a small bridge. The front desk confirmed that the only way of egressing from the building was from the single point of entry. If that path were blocked for any reason, one would be out of luck. I got a chance to look at the room beneath ours (which required yet another stairway down to access it, and because it was closer to the street, the windows were covered with bars. I would have been very nervous staying down there. In fairness, the hotel is nearly all solid masonry structure so a fire would no doubt spread less quickly. Another issue if one needed fast egress is that the main entry requires a key to EXIT; that is a very dangerous situation as in an emergency one might not have their key with them. The experience of staying here was adequate but seriously lacking in various ways, especially given the price. There was nothing even remotely resembling a concierge service; perhaps that’s asking too much from a Mexican hotel. And the lack of coverage at the front desk was, in my mind, completely unacceptable.
