Renaissance Tianjin Lakeview Hotel

First time stay at this hotel for a short family getaway on the weekend. Excellent experience. Nice clean room, no mold in the bathroom like in many hotels. Nice service from staff - special shot-out to Vivian at the front desk for a caring checking experience with a smile. Nice pool and jacuzzi. Also, quite close (driving) from Luneng mall - a place we go to for our favourite ice cream on every visit to Tianjin. In the spirit of continuous improvement, will point out that the hot food at the Club Lounge was so so, although good selection of fruits and deserts. Will definitely come back again for a stay in Tianjin.

Breakfast at the hotel restaurant was average. Below average for a western hotel brand in China. Executive Lounge still on restricted hours due to “Covid 19”?! Only opens at 1 pm instead of 6 am. Nothing written on the hotel website about the restricted hours. Very few English speaking employees even though it’s an American hotel chain. Very hard to communicate with the front desk and the lounge personnel. Rooms are outdated and need renovation. Carpets are dirty. Lounge bar had our bill wrong and tried to overcharge us. Front desk was unwilling to allow us to have a coffee from the restaurant even though people were inside. We had an early flight and needed to leave 15 min before the breakfast opened. Not very accommodating for a lifetime platinum member. Hotel was not prepared for the Chinese holiday. Everything was a mess during the first day. Took a very long time to get into the breakfast restaurant and all the food was gone. Trash and food everywhere on the floor. Half the tables filled with dirty dishes. Charges for parking, even when only dropping someone off for 5-10 minutes.

Everything at this hotel was fantastic. The staff were all very helpful and their English was good. The hotel is big, modern and with pleasant accommodations. The rooms are well equipped, clean and with good decoration. The breakfast had good and diversified options. We had also dinner at the hotel and it was very well cooked and served. The swimming pool and spa areas are huge and welcoming. We had much fun at the indoor swimming pool with our kids, it was a good alternative for the cold weather outside.

It’s not located in the city centre but there is a subway station right outside the hotel and you can easily get a taxi to the centre. The journey takes you around 20 to 25 minutes. There is a massive shopping centre just at a 9 minutes taxi ride. If you are from outside China have in mind that taxis are very affordable.

As I was approaching the hotel from the main road, my heart sank a bit because from the facade it looked very dated and my feelings were served right throughout my stay. Stepping into the main lobby, I can feel that the hotel indeed has its better days which was confirmed by my local colleague who said this is perhaps the first 5 stars hotel in the city. Check in was a breeze and I was given an upgrade to junior suite due to my membership status. Room is very large but the set up is old. Typical wood furnishing in the room with lots of space, what I don’t like is that the wardrobe is right at the entrance with little space for my luggage. Breakfast in my view is passable considering this is a grand hotel and there is no change of choices in the 2 nights I was there. Service throughout is attentive. As I always make it an effort to swim, I checked out the swimming pool which is indoor that is to me the best part of the stay but the walk from the changing room to taking an elevator to the pool can be challenging in cold weather. Overall a pleasant stay but I have seen better Renaissance but this is not the worst Renaissance

Everything was perfect. The staff were friendly and service oriented. The service was excellent in all respects. We especially want to thank Sonia and Serena who were extremely helpful. The hotel is beautiful. The breakfast was brilliant with many choices and high quality. We particularly enjoyed the club lounge where there were variety of refreshments and excellent services.
