Cala Lodge

Breakfast was the highlight for me. Following by nature around and scenery. Helpful staff Quiet, feels Safe Well equipped room, quality toilettes, free coffee station Would be better if they put “real” windows black outs (artificial light from parking place went through the curtains)

Great place!

It’s was ok, our room smelled like incense so much we had a hard time sleeping. The bed was also uncomfortable. The breakfast was just ok, nothing special. I would not stay here again.

Beautiful property

Wonderful spot!!! What a treasure. The grounds were gorgeous and the rooms were clean and cozy and spacious. They had everything we could need including a large fridge and freezer, microwave, utensils/plates, and pots to cook in. The front patio had comfy chairs to sit and enjoy the beauty. We loved the yoga class and took both the morning AND afternoon session. The breakfast was lovely too. It didn’t matter that they don’t have a restaurant on site because there were so many within walking distance. The only issue was the nightly/morning noises. The birds were singing and monkeys howling so it was an early morning wake up call. But we can’t control Mother Nature. This was one of my favorite places to stay while in Costa Rica and I only wish we could’ve stayed more nights.

Nice place, helpful staff and great nature walk

We booked this place with not many expectations but were so pleased with our stay. It's super quiet, secluded, and the view from our room felt like we were up in the trees. They had free made to order breakfast and free coffee/tea in the afternoon. You can eat at the dining tables or take a seat on the patio to watch the birds and they'll take your meal to you. The lobby had binoculars, bird books, and purchasable art from a local artist. The property also had a small hiking trail that was great for an afternoon stroll to see the wildlife. Our room had a fan instead of AC but the area was surprisingly so much cooler than everywhere else that we didn't need it. The room was clean and the water pressure was great. We loved our stay here.

We were traveling with my senior mom and aunt , both have mobility issues. The beautiful gardens here allowed them to see monkeys, agouti, motmots, coati and emerald toucanettes just sitting on the balcony. Breakfast was delicious.

Cala Lodge was an amazing stay. The staff were so welcoming and lovely. Our room was tucked away, which provided the opportunity to sit out on a quiet balcony and watch trogons, motmots, flycatchers, wrens, woodcreepers, hummingbirds and toucanets fly by. Breakfast was an absolute bonus; a great start to day being served a delicious meal and watching birds a few feet away come and eat the fruit put out for them (we also had a coati visit). There is a short trail on the property with seating areas and swings that one should not miss out. The lodge itself is about a 15 minute walk from the transmonteverde bus station in Santa Elena (to/from San Jose), as well as a quick walk to the bus stop in front of the school which will take you directly to the Cloud Forest - so there is no need to rent a car.
