"Good"

2.0

Beautiful place and nicely kept. The front desk - both times I went wanted nothing to do with being helpful. They were rude, unfriendly, the day shift basically refused to hang up on her personal call until after waiting for several minutes I just started to look at her. No historian on site- I get it, but no one even bothered to listen to the one question I had about Nottoway, so I didn’t even ask it. I wanted a print from the gift shop, sign said they were behind the desk- clerk said “we don’t have that”- no surprise there. The property is amazing the front desk/ visitors area help is a joke. Both times I went, two separate employees.

"Great couples getaway "

Overall, very good. Had some noisy neighbors that took over the porch and chairs, but the grounds and facilities were great.

"Mom/daughter getaway "

10.0

Our stay at Nottoway was fantastic. The house is gorgeous as well as the grounds and very well maintained. The food in the restaurant was great. Our house tour guide, Brandi, is a natural at her job....not only adorable but her sense of humor engages visitors into the history of the property. The one and only disappointment was that in a 56,000 square foot house you don’t get to see very much of it. I thinking opening up more of the house and taking guests into places where other plantations tours don’t, would set this home in a league if it’s own. We really enjoyed every moment of our stay and would definitely stay there again and again. Loved it!!!

"Beware - room description misleading"

6.0

The room is described on the website as "Classic Double Room, Multiple Beds, Non Smoking, Garden Area" and that the bed choice as "1 Large Single Bed and 1 Queen Bed" whereas in fact the en suite room has but one double bed only, so suitable solely for couples. When raised with Reception, their response was that different rooms on offer in this 3 storey building had different bed provision! Pictures on room description now removed from website - but these were misleading when we booked! In practice, rooms are within a converted 3 storey house with modest sound insulation - footsteps in room above very clearly heard. That said bed was comfortable and room was clean and of a fair size, though plug mechanism on wash basin not working and curtains were difficult to draw fully. Service at dinner was perfunctory. Highly unlikely that we would stay again if in the area - despite great welcome at check-in (the best part of our stay!).

"Luxurious yet affordable"

10.0

It was amazing. Beautiful antebellum home and buildings. Lush grounds. All the amenities plus the ambiance of the old south. Luxury and affordable. Staying at a plantation was on my bucket list. I checked it off but I so want to go again!

"An Experience to Remember"

8.0

We planned a visit here for one night before heading into New Orleans for the Mardi Gras weekend. Upon check-in, we were upgraded to a cabin when they found out there were four of us. The cabin was spacious and clean, we just wished that it had more comfortable beds - they were a bit too soft-sided. The grounds here are beautifully maintained and the restaurant had great service and delicious food - you must try the rosemary bread if you visit. We watched the movie about the history of Nottoway in the in-site cinema. We liked that it was self-start so we didn’t have to wait. We toured the home on our own and were fascinated with the preservation of it all. It was a true educational experience; however, my suggestion for the resort is to have more history about ALL the people who deserve credit for the history of the plantation. We felt like there should have been greater acknowledgement and respect regarding the slaves who contributed so much to the economy and welfare of the area while doing so against their will. While we cannot erase the injustice and cruelty of the past, it should not be ignored and needs to be addressed as a part of the whole story of Nottoway.
