"A Tale of Two Hotels"

4.0

This is the best of hotells and the worst of hotels. The location is great, a couple of blocks off Nevsky Prospect, and my room was quiet. If that's what you want, then this is the hotel for you. But if you want comfort, don't pay a premium price for this place. I was stuck on the 6th floor, which is like going back in time a quarter of a century to Soviet times. The first four floors of the hotel are serviced by a elevator and look like . . . a hotel. The rooms are otherwise identical, cramped and basic. No charm at all in the rooms. Worse, if you're on the fifth or sixth floor, say goodbye to the elevator and enter a stairwell that smells like a water closet and is clouded with cigarette smoke. The exercise might be good for you, but the smoke isn't and the urine smell is disgusting. If you're lucky, maybe you won't be stuck here as I was for four days. Sucker that I was, I had prepaid for the entire stay. But hotels in St. Petersburg are expensive, even the decrepit ones like this hotel. If I were to revisit St. P, I'd look at alternative options for accommodations, apartment rentals, that sort of thing.

"Great location, great breakfast"

8.0

We loved that breakfast was included everyday. The location was great - just between Nevsky-Prospect and 2 Metro stations. We did not take a taxi once, but walked, took the bus and metro. Number 7 bus goes all the way to the Hermitage if you do not want to walk. Staff was nice, they gave us hot water for tea every night which was good, since I had a cold. The room was a little small, but not enough to complain. We stayed on the back side of the hotel as the main street is a little loud.

"Not really 4*"

This hotel doesn't deserve a 4* rating in my view. The TV only has Russian channels on it!

"Nice plain hotel, very good staff"

8.0

By Russian standards, is is a very nice hotel. By American standards this would be like staying at an aged (but decent) mid priced hotel. The hotel is a little aged, but it is well kept. The staff speaks good English, and is very helpful. The restaurant has good food, they offer a 20% discount to guests if the hotel for table service at the restaurant (NOT for room service). Wine and beer in the restaurant is very expensive, buy it on the street and enjoy it in your room. There is a handy ATM located in the hotel lobby. E location is. Good, about 1.5 miles to the Hermitage and St. Isaac's, not a bad walk on a nice day because you will pass most of the other big attractions. The hotel is just a few yards off Nevsky Prospect, turn to e left on Nevsky and you will find e city's best historical attractions, turn to e right and you will find the best shopping ( all the major Italian and French designers are there, very expensive and nice).

"week-end gateaway"

8.0

My best stay in Peter in recent years, would definitely recommend it for a comfortable week-end getaway at a reasonable price. The location is perfect: 15 min walk from Moskovsky railway station and just a few steps off Nevsky Ave., very convenient for all kinds of sightseeing and a quite night's rest. I had a standard room on the 6-th floor, it looked like a standard 3-star room at a USA hotel. The elevator ran up to the 4-th floor, then we used stairs. The room wasn't very large, but light and in good shape. The sheets were clean. They give you free sleepers, but no bath robes, no tea or coffee-makers, also, the mattress felt a bit stiff. The bathroom was Ok, had complimentary toiletries (no body lotion) and 2 towels per person + 1 floor towel, the towels were clean and in good condition. There were no problems with hot running water - quite an achievement for a downtown Piter hotel. There are plenty of eating places all around for all tastes and budgets. The hotel breakfast was really great, included a variety of cooked meals and was served at a nicely-decorated restaurant on the ground floor. I had a dinner at that restaurant too and everything was delicious, plus we got small tasty compliments from the chef. The waiter spoke and even joked in English! The restaurant doesn't accept cards, but there is an ATM by the reception. Also, make sure your check your restaurant bill attentively! The hotel staff was very nice and polite to us. They also have a luggage room there.
