Lumley Castle Hotel

The staff make this hotel excellent, you can feel part of a family, Truly brilliant in every way, Helpful and aways give you the time for a chat with a smile, The staff that cleaned our room were outstanding, Being allowed to look around is a big bonus, An excellent castle with a lot of history, the grounds are terrific, and a pretty little courtyard where our particular room was that we found wonderful.

Not keen on the rather expensive food and drink, i appreciate there will be a premium for such a wonderful stay, but in my opinion a bit excessive,

Absolutely beautiful place and the staff were brilliant and if u can book the king james suite it was beautiful and massive , we stayed for wife's birthday and she's never stopped 😃,

We had a free upgrade as we were celebrating our 9th wedding anniversary. We had booked a superior courtyard room but we're given a four poster room with a hidden bathroom which is room 50 and it's through the wardrobe like Narnia . The food was fantastic and chef even put ham and mushroom on the margarita pizza as I'm not keen on just cheese and tomato pizza nice of them too . The staff were absolutely smashing so warm and friendly ( genuinely) and nothing was too much trouble. Now for the castle it was very impressive but if you're a clean freak you would not like the dust on the material clad ceiling and walls also the uneven floors and very dark corridors but if you like a genuine castle and don't mind the odd ghost then you will love this castle Lumley Castle has been a hotel for 50 years and long may it prosper. Now food In the restaurant was around £25 for your standard fish and chips etc however from the grill was significantly higher charges with fillet steak at £45 per person or Chateaubriand £90 for 2 we had this and it was excellent. We also ate in the Bar having a sandwich and the pizza which were very good and reasonably priced . Drinks were quite expensive be warned also please ask the cost as we asked for 2 single brandy's and it £48 ... Yep that was Remy xO but I strongly feel that the price should of been mentioned as not all Remy's are over £250 a bottle be warned.... On a whole we had a great time and will definitely go back .

The only thing we did not like was the drinks prices and the worse thing was the charge of £48 for 2 single brandy's . I strongly feel the waitress should of told us the price as it was not on the drinks menu in the restaurant.. Plus £39 for Italian prosecco was a bit steep. And lastly on our second day at breakfast we were rushed as I was just starting to eat my yoghurt and fruit and the red haired waitress said what did we want for cooked breakfast we both said poached eggs on toast not expecting it to be brought out within minutes I was still eating my yoghurt not a found farewell more like get out . Previous morning was far nicer and not rushed at all. I appreciate they probably had a wedding on or something but that was just RUDE ... However I will not let the action of one member of staff ruin our experience or dampen the other excellent service from other staff members.

Lumley is a very beautiful stately property. We stayed in the Richard 11 room. Beautiful four poster bed and original fittings. Very nice restaurant and lovely breakfast.
