Lumley Castle Hotel

Nice location in historic castle

Our twin room was smaller than expected, the extractor fan in the bathroom was noisy and the shower was not the best. The room was on the second floor and the lift only goes to the first floor so we had to carry our cases up 2 long flights of stairs which was unexpected.

It’s a 600 year old castle steeped in history which makes it a great place to stay.

If you stay in the castle be prepared for some very steep steps.

Myself and my partner stayed at the Castle for 3 nights at the beginning of May. We had high expectations and the Castle itself made a hugely positive impression on both of us. It is a wonderful castle, full of little corners and parts to explore while the outside was outstanding. We managed to find a small path down to the stream that flows in the small valley at the foot of the hill. The food at the restaurant was excellent, breakfast also while the bar was our best part or spend time, eat and drink, relax and read books.

That’s where the positives end and an ordeal begins…at no time before we arrived, did the hotel advise us that there will be Wedding parties on both Friday and Saturday nights. Unfortunately for us, while our room was beautiful and quirky, it was also the closest to the party hall…and its disco! It was impossible to rest/sleep and when i called reception after midnight, I was told that the party music will continue until 1am. The same happened the next night of course. So 2/3 nights of our stay, were ruined by limited night sleep. Personally, I have nothing against the wedding parties and the music. But I would have preferred to know upon booking that 2 weddings were booked for the weekend of our stay and the noise will be considerable. Then at least I would have had the option of either not booking or requesting another room. I simply can’t believe that we paid the same rates with rooms on the other side of the castle where there was no noise whatsoever. I feel that the hotel failed miserably in this aspect and I’d like others who book weekends at the otherwise wonderful environment of the castle,to either ask before booking or preferably, the hotel warns customers before they spend their money for not sleeping during party days.

Ils auraient pu mettre le chauffage dans les chambres, vu la météo

A wonderful experience altogether. Rooms were very well equipped and comfortable. The restaurant not to be missed for the food, ambience and personal service.

We could only stay one night!
