Shocking experience

Hotel room was appalling. In the stables, steep staircase with loose handrail (unsuitable for physicaly unstable) Not mentioned in hotel description. Room was grim , holes in carpet, all furniture damaged and very tired , TV hanging dangerously off the wall, could not see out of window because it was so dirty, Curtain ragged and held up with what appeared to be paper clips, room 45 generally dingey , bathroom not much better. We could not stay there it had a very uncomfortable feel to it. Reception was a small table alongside a tatty curtain in a large space that was as decrepid as the room. A total waste of £115.00 Disgraceful !! We booked into another hotel via another site cost a bit more but well worth it

Room (in stables block) was spacious & comfortable with a great king-size bed, but let down a bit by torn off section of curtain edge. Heating was effective, but couldn’t find how to control temperature, so had to just ‘on/off’ it. No ‘guide’ to services / facilities in room, and (small) TV didn’t seen to have a ‘what’s on’ guide. Restaurant had quite a limited menu, so didn’t have dinner there. Main hotel had power cut the next morning (stables block didn’t), so there was no hot drinks or cooked food for breakfast. Hotel apologised, offered cereal, fruit & yogurt and said they would give discount.

This is a fantastic setting very relaxing and quiet. We both slept well. There was a wedding event on so we appreciated our room in the Stables section. Breakfast was good and the ingredients were fine for us I have no idea what the other reviews moan about. We would stay again for sure. The only thing that wasn't really what we expected was we had booked a King size bedroom and the bed was two singles pushed together so uncomfortable in the middle of the bed. We got the room at a fantastic price so it was nothing we could fault overall.

We were really disappointed in this hotel. The building has such potential, lovely buildings on the outside but inside it is in a terribly shabby state. The food was inedible and over priced. The tables sticky. The staff were friendly but when I mentioned by sons burger was totally burnt and he couldn't eat it, we were offered money off for his lemonade! The worst part was the ceiling above the shower was dripping water through the over head light fitting. Very unsafe. Everything about the place needs investment and refurbishment.

This was just a one night stay after collecting a car. The hotel is situated in some lovely grounds and it is an interesting building. The double room was comfy with a large en-suite bath/shower and tea making facility. The staff were always keen and pleasant. The only thing that let us down was our dinner. We booked for 6.30 pm but didn't get our meal until an hour later and there were only two other people in the restaurant ahead of us. When we finally got our meal it was was good. We would have given it 5 stars as for the price it was good value for money for the two of us, but the wait for the food was a let down.

The welcome at Brownsover hall was lovely from reception. Parts of the building were decoratively tired with strange uncomfortable furnishings in the bar area. The rooms were very comfortable and clean however throughout the hotel was a smell of stale frying. The windows were so dirty with an unbelievable amount of cobwebs! The generator outside the front of the hotel kept me awake throughout the night. Bar food was disappointing.

First time staying here, upon arrival we were gobsmacked. The hotel is beautiful! The staff are lovely and so helpful, nothing is ever too much! The beds are the comfiest I’ve ever slept in and the area surrounding is so peaceful. Plenty of parking too. Unfortunately we had to set off early so didn’t get to stay for breakfast, however the dinner was lovely. Food was delicious. The only negative was that the dinner menu is quite small. We will definitely be back!

When we arrived at just after 8pm we were told that the restaurant had closed but that the bar served food and would be open until 10pm. We literally dumped our luggage in the room and headed to the bar only to be told that they stopped serving food at 8.30p.m. The bar staff member was extemely apologetic about it but an inauspicious start. Hotel and grounds look stunning initially and had clearly been renovated to a reasonably high standard. However upon closer inspection this was evidently some time ago and things have deteriorated a bit since. I suspect the decor was aiming for "shabby chic" but unfortunately is tending towards the shabby more than the chic. Wear holes in carpet, paint needing touch ups etc Only two "normal" tea bags (plus 2 of each instant coffee) in the room for two people - but only two creamers seems a little tight-fisted and certainly detracts/suggests more budget than luxury. Daily changes of sheets and towels is one reason we choose hotels over Air BnBs and it was nice that they did this automatically rather than having to request it. Also good to get individual shampoo/bath gel bottles rather than the cheapskate dispensers that so many hotels have now adopted. The hotel itself (bedroom and all general areas) was incredibly clean and the staff were first class. When they found out I was a tea rather than coffee person, they offered me freshly boiled water on day 1 and then remembered that was what I liked every day thereafter!
