Booked the hotel for a Friday night as I was working locally at 8am Saturday and in arrival I checked in and asked what time breakfast service starts to be told 8 til 10.30 . I explained I needed to leave by 07.30 am and when I booked it said 7 til 09.30 daily and was told not on weekends . I asked if anything could be supplied and was told no . I had paid for my breakfast in advance but got nothing so had to leave hotel at 06.40 to find somewhere to eat . Very inconvenient and due to this did not get what I paid for . Lovely old building but very run down . Worn carpets and cracks in walls etc and a musty smell throughout . At these prices for a single traveller £82 for 1 night I would have been more comfortable in a chain hotel for half the price . Not impressed and won’t be returning or recommending to my work colleagues .

"A great above average experience. "

I really enjoyed my stay here. I stay in the area and use chain hotels usually, having little idea this place existed. I checked the price and this worked out better value than the usual places I stay in so thought I'd give it a try. The buildings and decor are amazing. I have an interest in history and this aspect was great. The check in and staff interaction was minimal and this is mainly a good thing as I like things to be as 'fuss free' as possible. However, a suggestion would be for staff to offer a bit more info on arrival. I would have liked to have the dining/bar arrangements/location explained somewhere, and these are things I had to find out for myself. I noticed a few complaints about an overflowing bin and was surprised to see this for myself. It's out of the way and I'm not fussy, but perhaps an indication that feedback isn't acted on. My room was great. Very comfortable and a decent step up from the usual chain places. I slept very well. A small amount of noise was audible from other rooms, but that can't be avoided..nothing more than average for a hotel. The cleaning lady was talking loudly on the phone outside my room at 8am one morning though. I will definately stay again. I would say that there would be potential for the place to be refurbished and be made into a real upper class hotel, but I prefer it as it is, a place to stay that is a step above average for a price that's not horrendous.

Bit shabby and past it’s best, bulb missing in room, no water in room. Couldn’t close bathroom door! Overpriced - drinks at bar VERY expensive!

Had an enjoyable stay in the suite , room 47. It has a lounge downstairs and the. A narrow stair case takes you to a large bedroom and bathroom. Enjoyed our stay here . Hotel would benefit from some updated furniture and fittings. Breakfast was fine and no real issues .

A stay at Brownsover Hall is spoilt by the poor state of the rooms; shabby best describes them. The two rooms I have stayed in have had holes in the carpets, wallpaper pealing, cracked floor tiles in the bathroom and windows you dare not open in case they fall apart. There is poor communication between staff about allergies (I was served food which I had expressly asked not to because of my allergies). If you are thinking of using the bar, be prepared for extremely expensive prices.

"We would stay again."

10.0

We read a few reviews before staying, which were bordering on negative, so we weren't entirely sure what we would be getting for what seemed like a pretty cheap nights stay. I have to say, we had a brilliant stay. The staff were all friendly and very helpful (notably the waiter who served us for dinner, and again at the bar, very polite and chatty, sadly I didn't catch his name.) The building and grounds are beautiful. We stayed in the stables rooms and it was a good size, and had everything we needed. We would absolutely stay again.
