Great food, great service. We really enjoyed our stay here. The room was clean and nice, our butler was awesome - made sure we had a good time. Make sure you plan for the boat ride out - the boat only runs twice a day, otherwise you will have to hire your own boat.

No HBO....3 TV stations.....Food was awful....Need to revamp the menu.

We enjoyed our stay here but we had been traveling in the Philippines for 2 weeks and we were very used to the culture etc. I think if we had just stepped off the plane and into the resort, we would have been a bit taken aback by some of the things that are not up to resort standards in North America. -things like chipped tiles at the pool, ducks and chickens walking around the resort, no fence surounding the resort separating the resort from the homes of the Filipinos, etc. The personal assistant idea is great and so was dinner on the beach. It certainly wouldn't take much to make this a nice resort by North American standards. However, it is definately not there yet.

Built on a hill, it is a place for the phisically fit. Thetre are MANY stairs to climb when in the Gorei house or the 2 upper round huts. The website does not indicate where the rooms are, so it is difficult to tell. There are cottages closer to the ground level, but they were not listed as choices for a room. The pool is lovely. The beach is terrible. You cannot go into the water because it is not maintained or cleaned. Rocks and moss. The view, however, from the Gorei house is wonderful and the sounds of the birds is great and relaxing. The leaky pipes in the toilet area left the floor constantly wet. Piles of old building materials and unused furniture everywhere, Needs better upkeep. The staff is great; kind and polite, so that balances the overall view of our stay. Also web site needs updating.

The butler service and free ferry service are great pluses ; downside is the dark bathroom which in the leaning hut was primitive with cold water; staff do their utmost to please you and the owner has vision and style could do with more sunbeds though! the price s OK for what you get however

It would be nice if the wifi is near the rooms instead at the jetty. Which sometimes never turn on. Its a long walk there.

Hof Gorei is a very well run establishment. It is one of the best places i have visited in the Philippines. Very pleasant staff with great hospitality skills. I highly recommend Hof Gorei for those who want to experience something different.

I previously stayed at the Pearl Farm before which is the best you can stay on Samal Island so I had high expectations. Hof offers a personal butler for the time you stay which is why I would stay at this hotel instead of Pearl Farm. The personal butler is an awesome touch of personal attention and surpasses any other hotel in service. The butler is available from lunch until the time you retire. The place is smaller than most and you have to climb a few steps to arrive at the Jacuzzi, which for most expects warm water, but they clean everyday so its cold. The view from the top is stunning and the butler will service your every need, even from the top of this hill. Couldn't have asked for a better get away and service.
