Hyatt Place Des Moines Downtown

The positive - the hotel is very close to the YMCA where we had a weekend swim meet. They opened breakfast early so that we could grab a bite to eat before heading to the pool. The negative - this hotel is worn out. There were holes in the sofa, the finish on the furniture is scuffed off, the water pressure was terrible and Wi-Fi was very slow and unpredictable when I tried to get some work done. Although there are 4 elevator bays on each floor, only 1 actually works. The hotel was this way when we stayed here last year. Parking is across the street and $30/night, which seems very high. Our first night the general alarm went off for 45 straight minutes at 10:30pm. The front desk was unable to share what the emergency was, but to stay in our room. I was traveling with my child and this was unsettling. When the alarm finally was turned off, there was zero communication regarding the cause/resolution and no apology offered.

We liked the convenience of being able to utilize the skywalk to get to our event center.

Unfortunately, the pool was closed, which made for a very rough stay with toddlers and young aged girls, as we were there for a cheer competition. The only reason we stayed at this hotel was because they had a pool as we were spending six hours there with nothing to do.
