The Berkeley Guesthouse

The communication with Joy and Diane was before my stay was excellent. I was warmly welcomed and nothing was too much. I would definitely recommend to others and will definitely stay again.

The manager, Joy is A JOY! She's brilliant and makes you feel so at home. The room was cosy and inviting.

The facility is ok. It is one block from the board walk and about 10 mins walk from the train station.

The management is there to catch you for any $$ that can be extracted from you. I was charged not only the 10 pounds luggage storage fee (after checking out) but also a full additional night simply because I accidentally took keys with me when checked out in the morning. The room was left open so cleaning should not have been impacted. It's low season and the guesthouse was not full so no lost opportunity of making money was caused. Yet the management charged me a full additional night of stay when I returned to pick my luggage up and to catch my train to London at 2pm. How unfair that was.

It's a lovely place to stay. And joy is always cheerful and happy.and so welcoming.

We booked the Berkley because it was near the theatres.

When I booked I looked up "Bed and Breakfast in Eastbourne". We booked the Berkley because it was near the theatres. When we got there we were told we could not have breakfast for the first 2 days, i.e, the weekend, so we had to go to look for a cafe for this on those days. The entrance to the room was onto a raised step, so we had to be careful when entering not to fall down. Similarly the bathroom had another step up to it. The rooms were not "serviced" every day, only every 3 days or so, which means we had to make our own beds most days we were there. There was only one other resident when we were there despite a "No vacancies sign in the window.
