L'Esperance Hotel

We flew in a day before our cruise set sail and just needed an economical place to stay. Didn't want to spend the money on a resort that we wouldn't really be able to take advantage of. We did that for the night after returning from the cruise and turned out sorry we didn't stay here again (see other review of Simpson Bay Resort). The hotel itself is just a wonderful little place with a very friendly staff, beautiful courtyard with covered sitting areas and a great pool. Its in a very odd area with residences and commercial businesses all around and mostly not near shops or restaurants within walking distance. All the other guests had cars so I assume that people staying here for their vacations just drive to the relatively nearby beaches, shopping, etc. A good walk away we found a great local restaurant (Marks) that was a great way to kick off our vacation so we were covered just fine. There was also a supermarket nearby and since the rooms have nice kitchens you can get your food needs without any trouble. I'm not sure I would stay here as a longer term vacation spot but that's a personal choice as to how much to spend vs. on site facilities. For the money it was great for us

The staff were very attentive. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. Consistent shower temperature was a challenge. The location is quiet and easy to get to both Simpson Bay and Phillipsburg. I would recommend this for people who want a good price and have a car to get around.

This hotel is really inexpensive and Also really good. Confortable, very clean, close to any store, I was for 4 days there and they cleaned every day...

Booked this hotel due to location and price. Very affordable for sxm. Good location to catch island buses. Near excellent grocery stores. Neighborhood is not as scenic as some would like, but my mother and I walked at night without problem. The staff were outstanding. Super friendly and helpful. Room very clean. Free parking a plus, too.

This was our 5th year staying @ L'Esperance. You just can't beat the value. The rooms are very clean & the staff is incredible. They take pride in this little paradise as we have seen them updating rooms and painting. It is located in a quiet area which is a nice change from the hustle and bustle of Sint Maarten. We always rent a car on our vacation and drive everywhere so, for us, it's in a great location. The only downside to this lovely little hotel is there is no where to cook. Their pots and pans are very worn and we definitely don't want to cook inside on the hot plate provided, it would make the room unbearably hot. It would be nice if there was a grill or an outdoor bbq. We also love being able to leave our key behind so we don't have to worry about it. The pool is refreshing and quiet as well. The internet service was, for the most part, good on this trip compared to other years. We stayed for 17 days and there was no internet for maybe a day and a half. We can't wait to get back!

Very nice for a modestly priced, small hotel. Helpful staff. Close to airport and cruise dock (15 to 20 dollars taxi)

I have really not much to say, I loved every single bit of it, If u made your wifi-range a little bigger it would be excellent.The rooms self are spacious,its a bummer that there no near-by Restaurants,there is in either way a grocery store on a 5 minute walk distance,wich helped alot.Keep up the good job.

Missed our cruise in St. Thomas due to weather. Needed a room on St. Maarten on very short notice. Found L'Esperance on Hotels.com the night we were leaving while we were eating dinner at DFW airport waiting to catch our flight. We arrived late at night. It was dark, the neighborhood was sketchy though we never had an issue. The room was on the second floor. There is no elevator nor is there a bellman. We had to carry our three suitcases and two carryons up the stairs to our room. There were two rooms plus a bath. The front room was very large and nicely furnished but was not air conditioned. The bedroom had a king bed and was fine and it did have an air conditioner that worked fine, except we had just turned it on when we arrived so it took a while to cool down the room. The hotel itself is very nice, with a court yard, flowers and very pretty landscaping. We enjoyed our stay but felt fellow travelers should know about the neighborhood, lack of elevator, and limited air conditioning. For the price it was a great value. It served our purpose of a room for one night before catching a cruise ship.

Nice, relaxing, and reasonably priced. Very few restaurants and entertainment close by; however, taxis are readily available.

Lovely, clean with a beautiful, huge veranda for hanging out or eating. Nice pool, surrounded by Monarch butterflies, hummingbirds and flowers.
