Hotel 1001 Malam

Welcomed by very friendly staff. They helped to arrange for local tours (tip: book your tours when you are there to save money!). They also offer airport pick-up/drop-off. Wifi works fine. Room was clean and bed was comfy, no complaint. Breakfast is freshly cooked (you get a choice of pancakes, sandwich or fried rice) and delivered to your room every morning at a time of your choice. Room is well-maintained. No pool or TV, although that might not be a bad thing in itself. Best thing was, hot water and utensils were provided so tea/coffee were available 24/7. It's located in the middle of an international hostels area in an alley, so need to be dropped off in front of the main street, i.e. cars can't get to the entrance. Just bear that in mind. However, good thing is that it is very quiet at night, even though the location is so close to the heart of all the actions! Location-wise, it can't get any better as it is located to the north/start of Jl. Malioboro. Local food/shopping abounds, and close to a few supermarkets/mall as well, so it's very convenient to do shopping and to get food. Highly recommended for the price and location.

Staff are friendly and helpful. Spartan facilities but ok for the price paid. Very short walk to food and shopping but not at all noisy.

It was not so noisy, except the festival night. The staff kindly helped us choose the local tours.

The staff are very polite n provide good service.the location is perfect for relaxing n access to anywhere in jogya, train station is just nearby n marlioboro street is just 5 mins walk from hotel..morning breakfast are serve right to ur room, nasi goreng taste nice..definitely will stay again if revisit jogya

This is an interesting and comfortable budget hotel. We were entirely comfortable in an air conditioned room. Room was small but had a safe and TV. The staff was very accommodating, breakfast was served on a little table right outside of our room.

Breakfast took half an hour to be served, staff found that funny when we complained.Hotek asked to have the bill paid in cash but when i refused strangely the credit card facility would not work so had to go to a atm with a staff member to get them cash, staff also thought this laughable.Stayed for three nights ,second night bed not made ,towels not changed room not serviced.

My girlfriends and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. While there are no facilities like a swimming pool or an in-house restaurant, it does not really matter because there are many eating places near by. The staff are also friendly and would offer their advice on places to go, transport etc. The location is also very close to the main shopping area where there is a mall and many shops selling batik. Also around the area are many roadside food stalls. The bed in the room is really comfy and I have no problems falling sound asleep every night. As it is away from the main street, there are also no excessive vehicle noises. If you have to wake up early and leave the hotel before 7.30am (when they start serving breakfast), be prepared to take your own instead as they don't cater to orders before this time. An overall pleasant and comfortable stay.

Great character hotel set in a lane which also exudes charm. If you want a modern, spotless hotel room with all the mod cons, don't come here. On the other hand if you want a hotel that is a little different, and could only be in South East Asia, that is comfortable without being glitzy - and has great staff who aim to help where they can, then don't go past this place. It was more than just a place to sleep!

It is hard to find the Hotel 1001 Malam. The address actually points to an alleyway, which you walk down to find the Hotel 1001 Malam, hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Yogyakarta's streets. For the money, you could possibly do better if you were to scout around locally for a place. Around the area, there are many hotels... but you won't be able to book many of those online. So, for a cheap option, the Hotel 1001 Malam suffices and it is a short walk away from the touristy market strip and shopping centres. The actual hotel is fine. The bathroom is a bit basic - a combined shower and toilet. However the bed and the main room was clean and with effective air conditioning. There is no TV, and the WiFi internet is a bit iffy depending on room location. Right across from the hotel on the other side of the alley is a small restaurant which is cheap, and serves cobra and python. They have WiFi for customers too. The receptionist and staff were very helpful and friendly. They have tours you can take as well. Judging from the clientele, it seems like this is one of the most popular online hotels, which is filled with international guests. For online bookings, I am not sure there is anywhere cheaper. It's not a Hilton, but for most easygoing travellers, this should suffice.
