The French Country Inn

This is a cute on the lake Inn. We went for a girls weekend and had a blast. Dinner at the on-site supper club was outstanding.

A very nostalgic place with relaxed vibes. Exceptional customer service..the manager Eric greets each guest and makes sure your stay is everything you want. He gave us a bit of the history and you could tell he is very invested in the Inn. Because it was off season he offered us a full breakfast in the morning at the Inn...delicious! We had dinner at the restaurant and everything from the salad to the dessert was made to perfection. Don't skip trying a meal on site. Beautiful water views from the bar/dining. Live music in the background that enhanced our dinner and wasn't so loud... we still could have conversation. Eric came around to greet guests during dinner as well. Our room was clean, bright and comfortable. The beds (ours was king) are a nice firm but with just enough softness on top. Fireplace,Micro, small fridge and single serve keurig in room. You get one pod reg and decaf per person, so bring more if you need. Green mountain coffee pods and actual liquid creamer...yeah! We couldn't figure out how to get the tv to work but with the great views and quiet we didn't really care. I love that each room has a patio or balcony and we were able to enjoy a drink and game of cribbage overlooking the lake before dinner. In the morning I was able to watch the sunrise over the lake. This place is a gem. Not far from town but far enough that you are away from the hustle and noise. It looks like you could take a walk around the area but we didn't have time. The area has great coffee shops and shopping. We were there for thrifting books and pottery. Unfortunately it was mon/tue when some shops are closed off season so we checked out the other nearby towns. Definitely a great getaway for couples. We just did a one night but will definitely stay longer next time. Bonus; off season rates are budget friendly.

Stayed for one night expecting a romantic getaway at a bed and breakfast. While it was charming in some ways it didn't really match our expectations. Hotel Management was extremely friendly and serviceable in handling our reservation as well as checking us in. However we were surprised to find out that the "French" country inn was in fact a Danish style building operated in the past by the Italian mafia; nothing french about it. The attached restaurant (the Getaway) portrays itself as an Italian Steakhouse. It availed itself adequately enough for that genre. Service was excellent for a busy Saturday night. Portions were large and thematically inspired, however some liberties were taken in the kitchen. Example: the texture of the Risotto was decidedly off because it was made basmati rice instead of arborio rice. Also, we cannot in good faith recommend this as a traditional bed and breakfast option. You receive one coupon per guest for breakfast at the restaurant upon check-in, but it only counts for $10 and they automatically add a 25% service change. For two people, each ordering one non-alcoholic drink and one breakfast item, our subtotal came out to approximately $40. Once they had added their 25% surcharge (+$10), and only then discounted the coupons (-$20), what we expected to be a quaint, complimentary breakfast ended up costing us an additional $30 plus tax. Nevermind that service was lackluster at this juncture, this felt like a serious bait and switch. All in all this was a decent venue, but nothing exceptional. Beware the marketing and the hype. If you come into this expecting "French Country Inn" bed and breakfast you may be disappointed. This is a fairly well run lake resort in Wisconsin. It will serve you Italian American fare in a Danish setting overlooking a small lake.

Careful when you get the $10 breakfast coupon at the French Country Inn for thier restaurant. When you get the bill they automatically add a 25%, yes 25%, additional tip on your bill. It's not posted anywhere on the menu or coupon. It's a high tip amount to begin with regardless of the service level and just seems unethical to me. When we questioned this we were told sorry you have to pay it because sometimes people don't tip on the coupon amount. This sounds like a problem you should take up with them not penalize us!

Eric and The Team of French country inn from the frondesk, restaurants staff to the housekeeping was wonderful. It’s like a family to us. Excellent service, warm welcome. Food was great with good price and big servings. Clean and neat rooms. We stayed in one of the renovated rooms in 203. They did amazing job. Also stayed at the Dillinger suite and it was beautiful with lots of space with a nice balcony overlooking the Lake Como.

A weekend to remember

Eric, the Manager is just wonderful in so many ways! He shared many historical stories about the Inn which were so interesting. Eric has such a courteous, informative and fun personality which adds to the pleasure of your stay. As we stayed overnight on a Sunday evening it was Eric himself who made up a delicious breakfast for us. He wears so many different hats very well! We will be back. Our dinner was excellent, the staff very nice and our room was comfy and clean.
