The French Country Inn

If you’re booking a stay at the French Country Inn based on the photos, prepare yourself for a rude awakening—and perhaps a tetanus shot. What’s advertised as a “quaint lakeside retreat” is, in reality, a dilapidated property. The photos on the website are not just outdated—they’re borderline fraudulent. The rooms look nothing like the filtered, soft-lit marketing images. Instead, think stained carpeting, holes in walls, and bathrooms that feel like they haven’t seen a deep clean or renovation since the Reagan administration. The property itself is in desperate need of maintenance. Peeling paint and bird poop on the stairs, piles of dead bugs along the outside walls make the entire inn feel like it’s been abandoned and reinhabited by someone with no sense of hospitality. Bottom line: The French Country Inn is a textbook case of style over substance. We ended up switching accommodations and spending extra out of pocket because it was so gross.

We just got back and can’t wait to go again! Everything was perfect ! The room was great, comfy beds, everything you need ! Great balcony overlooking the lake . The restaurant was delicious, the service great, the music was good too! Fire tables to sit at outside with great views. Comfortable chairs at the pool , and the kayaks were so fun ! We walked to mars for happy hour , and took the boat ride back to the hotel . Breakfast was delicious in a perfect outdoor setting

Very historical place, there are remodeling and doing a great job, very clean, everything you need right on the property. The manager Eric, is very nice and accommodating. The restaurant on site has very good food and the service is excellent to hidden gem

Porch chairs were filthy. Room was musty. Difficult time to get tv to work

Beautiful place right on the lake , perfect sunset and Eric at front desk was very polite and pleasant. Would recommend the place for quite get away.

Absolutely the best time. The rooms are newly refurbished, the bar was SO enjoyable with a good bartender and live music. Had dinner at The Getaway right there on the premises. The breakfast was so unexpected -- blueberry pancakes, hash browns, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage - OMG!! So good! Host Eric has this place working so well!! Sitting on the deck enjoying a glass of wine looking at the lake - so relaxing. Just a wonderful experience!

Our 3rd stay and was a Charm! Will come back again… ❤️❤️❤️ As Always the Best hidden hotel gem in Lake Geneva. Great staff, excellent service , The Manager of the hotel Eric was wonderful not only to us but to all hotel guests. The cleaning staff, Celia, Mercedes, and Jasmine were great! Took care of us really well. Great service at the restaurant, our waiter Brad, Therese and Renee was very attentive. Coming to this hotel every year is a like a dear family that you want to see every year. ❤️🥰

The staff was very nice and welcoming. The room as very nice and love the porch looking out to the lake. Looking forward to returning soon.

This is the best place who like quite place.

We love the views and our room was just recently remodeled and it was so nice. The beds were comfortable. Also the price was reasonable especially for the views we had during our stay.. Very quiet as well.
