"50 EUROS PAS PLUS !!!"

4.0

"Simple guesthouse, manage expectations"

6.0

I knew that Japan and Kyoto would be expensive, and was aware that rooms tend to be quite small and that having an en suite room can be considered a luxury in some accomms. So I was prepared to manage my expectations. But I was still surprised at how small the room was. We had the traditional twin room for 3 nights. I wanted to try the futon bedding but whatever romantic ideas I may have had, I learned it's basically a mattress on the floor that I had to learn to get used to sleeping in. The traditional building is tall and narrow on a quiet residential street. I was lucky that my cousin based in Tokyo who I went with was learning Japanese, so basically she was our way-finder. Otherwise it would've been hopeless for me. She was able to communicate with the nice older Japanese lady that owns and manages the place.

"Good Choice for Budgets and Visitors who want Residential Experience!"

6.0

The Guest Inn Kyoto was a good place for my husband and I to stay for the short time we were in Kyoto, but there were several problems with it. For one thing- this place is not close to the tourist areas at all, you either need to take bus or taxi (train if your willing to pay), and made things fairly difficult for us to navigate. In addition, the room was very small and traditional Japanese dorm room (tatami mat and futon) but you do get your own bathroom. Lastly, the residential area has very little English speakers so some Japanese language knowledge is a must! Overall, not a bad choice for solo travelers or couples on a budget who don't mind the residential location, but it is budget priced for a reason.

"Sweet, affordable guest inn on a quiet street"

10.0

I came to Kyoto to visit my son who is attending a Kyoto university and stayed here for seven nights. I was given a very clean corner room on the second floor and really liked it. The futon bed was comfortable, as was the comforter. There are traditional Japanese buckwheat filled pillows as well. The room had controls for heat, air conditioning and even for lighting, allowing you to dim to a soft tone at night. There's also cable TV. Wi-fi was fast and reliable and a router provided for all floors. The Kyoto Guest Inn is located in a traditional Japanese building, very tall, vertical, but cool. The bathroom is traditional too. The water pressure in the shower was amazing! And you can even take a bath as there is a small furo-style tub. Downstairs in the small family-style lobby you could find a hot water kettle, microwave and extra towels, and always a friendly greeting from the owners. I loved coming home at night, no matter how late, and finding the door propped open, lit by a small lantern. That's how safe this area is, and indeed, all of Japan is! The street itself is residential with a couple of small businesses and very very quiet at night. As for location it's almost directly behind the Nishi Hongwangi temple, maybe a two minute walk. As for distance to the station, it's a bit far if you are arriving with heavy luggage..but doable. We took a cab to get back to the station, cost about 900. My son speaks the language and helped me check in, but the reservations staff speaks perfect English. You will put down a deposit and pay in cash on arrival. I would very much like to recommend the clean, quiet, cozy, warm and welcoming Kyoto Guest Inn! Thank you to the staff for making my stay in Kyoto so pleasant.

"Cozy small guest house"

6.0

We stayed here for five nights. Our room was very small but cozy and comfortable. It was a Japanese-style room with tatami floor and futon beds. Everything in the room was very clean. The bathroom was tiny also. There was free wifi and heating/air-condition. Our room was non-smoking. The stairs were very steep. The location was pretty good, in a quiet neighbourhood. It's a walking distance from Kyoto Station. Several bus stops are close by. The owners (?) always greeted us in a friendly way and when we arrived, they carried our suitcases upstairs. They didn't seem to speak much English, but somebody working there speaks good English, since I contacted them via the booking website before our trip in English and got very friendly answers in English.

"Great Budget Place"

8.0

I stayed there for 5 nights in october 2016. The room is quite basic, but still cozy. After a long flight I was really happy to fall on my futon bed. Maybe this kind of bed is not made for everyone, but if you are open to it it is great for the money you pay here. The staff was super friendly. While the cleaning ladies do not speak much English, the owner made up for it. she even organised my Ta-Q-Bin service. I just had to drop my luggage and igve her the address and she did everything else for. That was great service. Location is also good. In walking distance to the train station which will suit many touists with JR pass and close to Metro station to discover the city. Right across the street is a huge temple that you should check out.
