Well, we booked this hotel, as one of my colleagues from the past, was celebrating his 60th wedding anniversary there.
As we live in North East Lincolnshire, we booked two nights.
Because my wife has IBS, I initially called the hotel, explained our problem with food, and they assured me they could accommodate our needs perfectly.
On entering our room, we found that the kettle still had water in it, from a previous resident, not good!
A word of warning to people who have difficulties with mobility, there are no lifts, and the hotel has numerous amounts of stairs to overcome!
On our first night, we visited the restaurant and ordered our meal, spending time explaining what my wife could have, and what she couldn't. After all, on booking the room initially, I had asked all the required questions regarding my wife's 'diet', and they assured me they could cope with it.
The next day, the day of the evening event we were there for, my wife took ill around 4.30pm, and at 7.00pm, could only just manage to be present downstairs, at the 60th wedding anniversary.
Later that night, as we had to leave early, she just slumped on the bed in our room, and was 'out for the count' till about 6.00am the next day.
From experience, we know that the meal she had had, must have contained something that she wasn't supposed to eat.
Also, I ordered a glass of red wine on the first evening, and was presented with one of those small bottles, as they didn't serve 'glasses' of wine.
However, I received the bottle, and after drinking it, found that my glass contained 'finings', which appear in the production of wines! However, a decent winery would have made sure these were cleared from the wine, prior to bottling!
After complaining, the staff said, ''oh, we get that all the time''.
I was gobsmacked to hear this, and that's when my suspicions were proved, having had doubts about the hotel, after discovering the kettle with water, in our room.
Anyway, the next morning, my wife was still unwell, but as we were leaving that day, she managed to have breakfast, but they still got that wrong. The staff there don't seem to be good at listening.
Our other observation was that when encountering staff throughout our stay, they didn't speak to us 'in passing', meaning they hadn't been trained correctly, even when entering the breakfast room!
Over all, I would give this hotel only two stars, as we were extremely dis-appointed with the whole stay.
