Crowne Plaza Yichang by IHG

We were warned not to stay in Yichang after our river cruise, so we booked the best hotel we could find. First, the good news. The limousine from the wharf wound through the poorest suburbs, on broken pavements - interesting but confronting. The hotel is delightfully located in a busy part of town, surrounded by shops large and small - even a Walmart is in the same building, which is ideal for those small things or a couple of beers at one tenth the price from the minibar. The staff were delightful. Most of the items on the restaurant menu were unavailable, including wines (see below). The only choice was Goulash made with slow cooked shanks. Since when is Beef Goulash stir-fried tiny cubes of beef (topside?) with vegetables, sauce (from a bottle?) and a pile of dry spaghetti? Whiskey sours made with Coke and no egg white? It takes skill to destroy such a simple drink so comprehensively. Limited space prevents a full listing of the fun we had that evening. You have been warned.

This is a really nice western hotel with beautiful rooms and a really nice staff (English speaking). The location is on the river right next door to the mall. Great area to walk. Our only complaint is that the air conditioner didn't cool. When we called the desk they sent someone up right away to fix it but it still never really cooled.

We stayed one night at the Crowne Plaza Yichang following our Chongqing to Yichang Yangtze River Cruise. We are soo glad it was just one night. If you don't mind sleeping in a sweat box then give the Crowne Plaza Yichang a try. You too can have a sleepless night while paying for the privilege. A couple of things that I want when I stay in a quality establishment. I want it to be clean and I want to be able to sleep comfortably. While the hotel is clean and has good amenities and the rooms are nice don't expect to have air con. We stayed here during April while it was 18 degrees celsius outside it was an uncomfortable 27.5 degrees Celsius inside our room. We called reception to complain and they said they would send a worker. A 'worker" came, he looked at the panel and then he opened the window and left. We went down to reception and advised that the worker came but did nothing but open the window and were advised they would send someone. When we returned from dinner we found they had placed a fan in the room which was doing nothing but blowing the warm air from the air conditioning around the room. If you do a search on reviews of this hotel you will find many reviews mentioning the air conditioning. We wished we had paid attention to these.

We just came off the Yangtze River cruise through the Three Gorge and decided to spend a day in Yi Chang and stayed here. Good decision. This is in the new development area. There is still construction nearby, but the Yangtze River is across the street. There are tons of shops nearby, from Exotic international brands to local hole-in-wall shops. Close (relatively) to the rail way station. Top notch rooms and lobby. luxury through and through. True 5 star material. High recommended.

Spend one night only and was fairly exhausted by the time we arrived at the hotel. Centrally located and easy access to most things. Did not spend much time looking around as we needed the rest. The water jug did not work but was quickly fixed. A bit far from the airport.

We enjoyed our 1 night stay at Crowne Plaza Yichang. We had the "all you can eat" dim sum at noon on Sunday and although the dim sum was "a la carte" and not the little trolleys that you get to pick your food from, it was very very good. We were happy that our room was not on the sunny side of the hotel since it could have been very very hot. The air conditioner worked well, but it might have kept up if we had been on the sunny south side. The reception desk people were all very helpful. I recommend this hotel for both families, business people or couples.

The Yichang Crowne Plaza is a great hotel that is up the best standards anywhere in the world. The rooms are beautiful, the service is impeccable, the breakfast buffet is great and the location is perfect for anyone considering a cruise through the three gorges as it is located right in front of the dock used by most tour cruises.
