"Stay Somewhere Else"

1.0

If you are the owners of this hotel, you need to know the way guests are being treated by your manager, and if you are a person thinking of staying here, think twice about staying. Here is a blow by blow transcript of our quite frankly, awful experience. We were a group of an 80 year old, a 75 year old and three early 50’s - the date of our stay was 6th Sept and we had driven down from Llandudno, and arrived at 5.30pm; we walked into the main reception and a man appeared at the desk from the office behind, didn’t say anything at all, just stared at us, so we said “checking in please” to which he just said “name” - that was it, and it was all very odd and unwelcoming immediately. He went back into the office and came back and placed 2 keys on the desk, told us the way to the room and the time breakfast was, and that was it. He was not interested in any further interaction with us (he didn’t tell us the main bar was closed for an event, where anything was and nothing mentioned about the restaurant being fully booked! One of the group (a 75 old lady) had sprained their ankle that afternoon and as we arrived, she was using a walking stick and we gingerly helped her into reception and to her room. We immediately got ice from the bar and elevated her foot, as it was slightly worse than we thought. After we settled into the rooms, we went back to reception (around an or so hour later) and asked what about dinner, to which we were told (by the manager) that they were fully booked, and that we needed to find something in the village. I said that’s fine for the group (not ideal, but they had sent 2 messages on booking.com asking us about our dinner plans, so fair enough). But i said that we should have been told at least on check-in that they are fully booked and I asked what could they do for the 75 year old lady for a meal, as she needed to stay in the room due to her ankle, and the reply was “nothing” - I have one chef, and no food at all can be provided.

"Very relaxing and comfortable."

8.0

Beautiful property with character. Staff were great. Bed was super comfy.

Lift out of order so had to walk up three flights of stairs, difficult for me having had a triple heart bypass.

"Grand Hotel stay with great service"

8.0

I chose the hotel to celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday as she lives in Wales nearby. We had dinner, bed and breakfast booked from a Sunday night. Dinner Sunday afternoon was lovely and we enjoyed the ‘many waiter’ service. Each waiter served individual items to your plate which felt like great old fashioned special service! We had a twin room on the first floor. The lift was out of action but thankfully mum is mobile! We walked around Usk Castle (45 min visit tops!) then around the town and also along the river. Good venue for weddings with grounds and the river close by.

It was quiet on the night we chose so we ended up watching some telly before bed.
