"No aircon"

6.0

No aircon and with windows open there is lots of road noise, but not all night. The bed was a little on the lumpy side but overall the bedroom and bathroom were acceptable. Food good and polite staff

On a peaceful road on the lake but easy walking distance to town. The breakfast and dinner at the hotel were both very nice.

"Good Small Hotel with Excellent Staff"

8.0

I am torn over the rating for this property. If one were to compare it to, say a Conrad, it would not stand up to the comparison. But there is nothing like the Conrad in this part of Germany. So, for this area it rates very high by me. Just don’t expect memory foam mattresses. The build is well over a hundred years old and while it is absolutely spotless there are some places that are a bit worn. The lobby has some seating and there is always a samovar with tea available. The small bar is well stocked with local spirits, and the smoking room looks perfect if you indulge. Breakfast is good with yogurt, eggs, cheeses, fresh fruit, and wonderful breads. I have it on good authority that the hot chocolate is perfect. The real treasure is the server, she is magnificent. The front desk staff is beyond expectations. They are warm and welcoming as if you are a long time valued client. Most speak English as well as Russian (this is in Eastern Germany after all). I would especially like to thank Ms. Staat for her hospitality and assistance to my colleague who needed some banking assistance. The room I was in had a modern bathroom with plenty of hot water. The room itself was fine. The only real drawback was a very thin and hard mattress in the four poster bed. The view out over the lake was wonderful.

"Fabulous"

10.0

Schwerin is a beautiful city and right in the heart along the lake is this fabulous old hotel. Lots of charm and character. The lobby is small but elegant and they have an old elevator to help get your luggage upstairs (or you can take that stairs). We asked for quiet and unfortunately that meant a view of their back parking lot. On the flip side, it was super quiet (it was also at the end of the hall). The room is a good size with a four poster bed and elegant writing table in front of the large windows. The bed was hard and could use an extra mattress support. The taps were rather squeaky which did get annoying when one used the bathroom at night. However these were the only faults we found. Our sleep was super quiet. We were offered a welcome drink of port wine (nice touch) which we had in their small but elegant bar. The lobby was actually very comfortable to sit and relax. We decided not to go for breakfast but the dining room looked very nice. Unfortunately their restaurant was closed for the season. Too bad because we heard it was good. Walking is a key feature here. One could walk to the old town or up to the train station or better yet walk along the treed lined lake across the street. There is a lot going in this historic town, including this hotel.

"Very nice rooms and interior decoration"

8.0

We stayed here for one night. The rooms and bathrooms are very nice and spacious and are comfortable. The reception area is homely and the bar and the chimney room are very cosy. The barman concocted an interesting drink - strawberry gin - which was really quite nice. The restaurant is very pretty. If you stay here, you must have breakfast. Such a wide selection of tempting treats are on offer. Dinner was pleasant, but did not reach the expected standard. Parking facilities are available on the premises. The hotel staff made you feel very welcome. Some of the upper class guests, however, seemed to feel a little disturbed by the presence of middle class guests.

"Charming and Cute Hotel"

10.0

The room/hotel was clean and in a perfect location, close to both the train station and Schwerin Castle. While it doesn't have AC, my room didn't need it during my stay in late May. The windows open and provide a cool breeze from the waterfront.

"The hotel’s restaurant for dinner is the best feature"

8.0

This is a nice quaint hotel with a nice view overlooking the Pfaffenteich (a man-made pond) in Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. It is about a 5 minute walk from the train station. When booking a 3-night stay, I requested a room with a walk-in shower and a view overlooking the pond and was given it. The bed was moderately comfortable although the pillows were not really comfortable for my liking. Despite that the window curtains did not close and there was very little street noise, making for reasonably comfortable sleeping. The bathroom was very clean, well-maintained, and had the usual toiletries, which were not replenished daily. There are lots of power outlets around the room. Room lighting is somewhat on the dark side, as least in my room. No lamp lighting at the desk so I moved a floor lamp to the desk. In my room, the closet safe was not bolted down so that a thief could just carry off with it. There was also an ironing board/iron and a minibar. The internet although free, worked sporadically with both my mobile and laptop, often with slow loading/connecting times – however there is a terminal free to use in the lobby. There is a small bar/lounge area adjacent to the lobby. The breakfast was average but filling. However, the hotel’s best feature is its restaurant for dinner – excellent dishes and service. I found the desk staff to be very pleasant and helpful in answering questions and offering helpful suggestions. Would book again if only to enjoy dinner there.

"Comfortable Base"

6.0

We stayed here to explore the region for further group travel activities. The location of the Hotel near the main station and right opposite of the Pfaffenteich (lake) is great. Our accommodation was spacious with a comfortable bed, nice bathroom and living room, the floor was a bid run down, as was the kitchenette right at the entrance. Also the access to the room, was a bid awkward, as one first would use an elevator to get to the first floor (second in the US) and then had to go downstairs again in another part of the building. With heavy luggage it was not comfortable and nobody offered help. On top a big part of the hallway leading to our room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. Staff members in the restaurant ware attentive and friendly and the breakfast buffet satisfied our needs with plenty of choices. Bar and reception staff (afternoon/evening) seemed not very motivated, except the lady who checked us out in the morning. Parking was easy with a permit issued for the hotel - cost 5 Euro. WiFi (Wlan) was free, but very slow. So overall highs and lows, which explains my rating as 'average'.
