"an ok hotel for one night"

8.0

the hotel is warm and clean, surrounded by greenery and with a very nice breakfast. we could see deer from the front door. parking is free. the staff is helpful and the wifi is also free. the rooms are not too big but they are clean. Mine had the shower coming out into the room (but they did not provide a mat) and the toilet in a separate room (a bit too close to the corridor, one could hear everything). They also have a spa but they close it very early.

"Great hotel but...."

6.0

Great little hotel but there where some details that where missing. As per other reviews the hotel seems a bit dated in the rooms. Rooms could do with stripping out and starting again. Definite lack of kettle in room. Hotel staff where very friendly and felt they made up the lack of investment in the hotel. Only if the rooms where better I would rate 5/5 not 3/5

If you like to stay in period elegance, if a bit faded, this is the place.

"Not bad, but not great either"

6.0

I stayed here while in The Netherlands on business. This property has a good location that's close to the train station with numerous restaurants within walking distance. The "Herrenkamer" Whiskey Bar was a nice, unique, and classy place to relax and network with my colleagues. My room was of a good size, and well laid out with a very comfortable mattress. Finally, there were some real shining stars on the staff (Christine - who keeps the Herrenkamer Bar on some nights, a Chinese lady and a very jolly Dutch lady both of whom are at the front desk) who went out of their way to make my stay pleasant. However, they are suffering from some recent staff turnover which made for some below par and slow service at times. Also, the Herrenkamer was closed without notice for a private party one particular night; which was particularly frustrating in light of the fact we'd given notice that we would be bringing non-hotel guests there after a team-building exercise. The preceding, coupled with the lack of an elevator for getting luggage to the rooms on the second floor, made for an experience that was somewhat disappointing. Other points: My room included Free Wifi and Breakfast. The WiFi bandwidth was adequate, but insufficient for FaceTime. My colleagues reported that Skype worked fine. The breakfast was good, but they were very slow to replenish the buffet, resulting in a lack of sufficient quantities for the group we had at this hotel during the 0700 to 0730 rush. Bottom Line: Recommended with caveats - stay here if you need to be close to the Train Station, don't have much luggage, and after they've had a chance to fully train their new staff. Otherwise, you may want to consider another establishment.

"You get what you pay for"

6.0

We stayed here for one night on a coupon. It is a pretty mediocre hotel. The room smelled a bit like sweat, the bathroom was last renovated in the 70s and poorly ventilated. The interior of the room was decent. The hotel looks a bit tired though. There was a very faint sound of music coming through the floor from the dining area downstairs. Why this has to be on at 4am is anybodies guess. The hallway was very noisy. The cleaning staff knocked on the door at 9am, which is strange, because we only stayed the one night. Breakfast was included in the coupon. The quality was poor as well. The tables weren't cleaned while people were leaving, the scrambled eggs really salted, the bacon not crispy at all, and the traditional "poffertjes" were tasteless and lukewarm. Coffee was alright! On the plus side; the staff at front desk was very helpful and knowledgeable. Painkillers were available free of charge ;) Why Holland has one of the most expensive hotel prices in the world is definitely not related to the level of luxury. Read my review of the restaurant De Kromsteert for a more positive review!
