"Best hotel in the best little town"

10.0

Right from the beginning our experience of the Madeleine was good. Email contact from, before our arrival, welcome at reception, advice on restaurants and sightseeing....All great. We were upgraded twice to a large room overlooking the square. Very quiet and comfortable. We were told that this room was due for renovations but still looked in very good condition. The bathroom was a little dated but clean. The only issues were the shower glass leaked underneath making an absolute mess of the floor and the fan heater was a bit fickle not wanting to turn on sometimes..But since they were about to renovate, it's hardly worth complaining about . We would highly recommend their breakfast. Fresh orange juice, crispy pastries, locales and cheese plus bacon and eggs , good coffee too. Apart from perhaps the breakfast waitress, all staff spoke superb English(2 were actually English ). So we would say choosing this hotel is a no brainer. The town of Sarlat is a.must see too. Possibly the prettiest in the Dordogne. The regular town market is great for local delicacies. The huge door on the covered market is worth a photo

"Great location in a pretty town"

10.0

Super friendly welcome from the front desk. We had been running late for check in and the hotel had replied to our emails immediately. Several of the staff are native English speakers...We had to use all of their skills when we had car trouble and the local sixt office didn't speak English.. The hotel itself is great. Very nice room...even though it had not been renovated recently it was still in good condition. The bathroom needs some work done though. Shower over bath floods out everywhere and makes a mess. Our bonus was our room being located next to the spa meant we could make tea as it had a kettle. Most rooms in France do not have tea and coffee making facilities unless they are apartment hotels. We are sad to leave this place..fantastic location on the edge of an extremely pretty old town.

"Excellent location in a beautiful city"

Though the bathroom was a bit small, overall the room was very nice. The front desk staff, especially Kathleen, were superb.

"Lovely hotel at the entrance of the old town"

Great hotel. Only inconvenience is not being able to drop off in front of the hotel on Saturday as the road is closed for the market.

All good - the bathrooms need to be updated - and the decking around the pool needs to be replaced

Excellent hotel with friendly staff. Located in the middle of Sarlat. Restaurant was not open in the evening, but there were excellent restaurants nearby. Would stay again.

"Beautiful place to stay in while in Sarlac"

Very nice hotel and superb staff who strive to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Would not recomment rooms on op floor as these have small alcove windows.

"Excellent location"

8.0

There was nobody to help us with our luggage and the lady at the front desk was efficient but not very friendly. No smiles, etc. The garage is about 3 blocks away. We left the hotel on a Saturday, market day on the street, so we had to pack one day ahead and put our bags in the car, otherwise we would have to carry our luggage for 3 blocks on a rainy day. Also we did not like the mattress. Very soft. The location is great, in the heart of the city, walking distance for everywhere.

"Charming Hotel"

8.0

Very much enjoyed stay in Sarlat, a small village with lots of pretty, old, stone buildings and about 25 km from Lascaux II. We were in off season (early December) and crouds were not a problem.
