Nomads Airlie Beach

The setting of the hostel and its communal areas is certainly lovely; it consists of bungalows set within a sort of campsite where you can eat outdoors even in the evening and watch the sunset and sunrise. It’s in the very heart of Airlie Beach and serves as a starting point for tours and shuttle services.

The hostel’s facilities are poor, as there isn’t a locker or even a clothes hanger in the room. You’re forced to leave your clothes on the floor, risking them being attacked by the huge cockroaches in the bathroom, especially at night. The kitchen was dirty; I’ve stayed in hostels and I know it’s hard to keep things tidy, but in this one was too much. There were absolutely no supplies such as paper or cling film. The tea towels were worn out and dirty. If you ask for a hairdryer at reception, they charge you $15, which is refunded when you return it, but it takes 3–5 working days. Furthermore, the price is really high, and despite my willingness to adapt, certain improvements would cost the management very little to make everything a bit more decent. That’s a pity, because the setting of the hostel is amazing and the experience could be 10 times better.
