The hotel had promised to provide a driver to pick me up at the airport and no one was there. The first night, the room was noisy, with constant street traffic, dogs barking, telephones ringing and people talking loudly in the hallways the entire night. There was no top sheet on the bed, only a grungy blanket. The travel agency located in the lobby of the hotel would not accept my cancellation of a three day excursion despite my giving 24 hours notice of cancellation. Every time I walked through the lobby, they hassled me and my son. They insisted on charging a cancellation fee even though I had not signed any contract for the trip. The hotel is located in an area with countless touts who would converge on us every time we exited the hotel. Very unpleasant place. Would never recommend it.

Polonia is expensive for the PaharGanj neighborhood, but it's clean, nice, with decent service. About 10-15 minute walk from the train station, or a quick autoriksha, on a quiet(er) side street off the Main Bazaar street. The biggest problem is that when they showed us up to our room, it had not been cleaned since the last guest! They quickly started to clean the room and gave us the choice of taking another room that was already ready, but we decided to wait as we liked the location better- our room is one of 2 on the roof, next to the pool. If staying for a while, I can imagine that this would be a noisy location, as breakfast is served on the roof, but we were up early to get to the airport so this wasn't a problem. Positives are decent facilities, polite staff, a lot more class than the rest of the neighborhood, wifi, lots of channels on the tv, good free breakfast, clean and comfortable room. The negatives: windows open on to airshaft, lots of street noise at night (but this is true almost everywhere), room a bit musty/stuffy.
