Royal Sportsman Hotel

Friendly people on reception; very helpful. Excellent service in the restaurant and good value for money. A varied menu and everything we had (evening meal) was delicious. Pleasant ambiance and attractive bar area. Can highly recommend.

Room was clean, bed was really comfortable, slept really well,a little warm as radiators were on but a fan is provided, staff were really friendly, breakfast is excellent but the time slot of 07:30-09:30 is a little early, parking is really good with a roof above which stops any seagull mess👍…. Overall an excellent place to stay

We had a lovely stay here. Without any doubt the stars of the show are the staff who work here, friendly and helpful from check in to check out. The food in the restaurant and the breakfasts were really good. Lovely bar area. Our room was a little dated but freed all we needed and the bed was really comfortable. Having onsite parking was a bonus. We will definitely stay here again.

There was no lift..

After reading the excellent reviews, we decided to have dinner at the royal sportsman on the last night of our trip. The menu looked enticing, so much so that I had a hard choice between three or four options. But I can console myself now with the knowledge that anything I chose would have been out of this world. I had Tuscan chicken and my husband had steak and ale pie. Both were absolutely fantastic. My chicken was perfectly cooked, beautifully seasoned and with just the right amount of delicate sauce. The wedges and veg were the perfect accompaniment, just enough without there being too much. The pie was probably one of the best that either of us had had in a long time, the pastry was crisp and the filling was tender and flavourful. We followed with sticky toffee pudding each. In hindsight we could have split one, but I'm glad we didn't! It's difficult to get sticky toffee pud wrong, but to get it this right is a glorious thing. The balance of sauce and pudding is just right and the ice cream compliments it beautifully. We enjoyed our meal so much that we're now planning to come again and stay, so we can see how good breakfast is!

Stayed as part of a group of golfers and we were well looked after by the excellent staff who run this hotel. Bedrooms were comfortable and whilst the bathrooms could be updated, they were clean and functional. Breakfast buffet and hot choices were excellent. Car park at rear is quite small, so could get full at busier times; good to see electric chargers available.

Bar, breakfast, restaurant are lovely. Staff are friendly. Room was very clean. Location was great. Free parking on site. We were staying in the patio rooms which had one window looking into an indoor patio area. For me felt a bit claustrophobic as no window on the outside. Pipes are loud. Was fine for one night but wouldn't want to have stayed longer.

Lovely clean hotel. Turned up and booked a room last minute, the staff were really helpful and pleasant. Rooms had everything we needed and a lovely breakfast in the morning. All staff were a credit to this hotel, so efficient and helpful
