Royal Sportsman Hotel

Ideal location near the middle of Porthmadog with on site parking. Room was very clean and well decorated in a smart contemporary style. Ate an evening meal which was very good and a good sized portion. Breakfast, which was included, again was very good and offered a varied menu. Very friendly and helpful staff. Useful to know, they have EV charging in the car park.

Bar and restaurant areas are very tastefully decorated and comfortable. The location is perfect, with the main town and stations close by.

Our ground floor room, though comfortable, was very small and as the window opened onto a covered courtyard, we couldn't see outside. So, a bit confined and a little claustrophobic.

Breakfast was good.

Polite friendly staff. Nothing too much trouble.

Would have preferred a room at the back or side of hotel as road very noisy.

The location

The room was dirty it had cobwebs everywhere and the bathroom needed a good clean. The breakfast food was very average.

Right in centre of town, big Tesco across the road if you need anything. Great breakfast.

No light in the bathroom, literally no light fitting. Shaver light above mirror didn’t work either so had a shower in the dark. This was actually a good thing as there are no blinds and the full length, slightly frosted windows give everyone in the building opposite an eyeful. Especially when you sit on the toilet!

Breakfast and evening meal was exceptional. Hotel was clean and comfortable. Arrival was welcoming. Hotel car park allowed us to park on arrival and walk 10 minutes to Porthmadog Steam Railway. 10% reduction on tickets for those who stay at Royal Sportsman. Staff are an asset to the hotel including those taking care of the rooms and waiters who was cheerful and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Their friendly demeanor day in day out morning and evening made us feel blessed. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately, we had a very short stay at the Royal Sportsman Hotel, but we hope to return again soon! We stayed in Room 4 – a courtyard room – which was newly decorated, very spacious, and lovely, bright and airy. The beds were large and very comfortable, with beautiful crisp sheets. The bathroom, and especially the shower, could do with a bit of modernising, but overall it was absolutely perfect. The towels were large and soft. Breakfast was excellent! The service was great, with a wide choice of cooked options. The restaurant and bar area were lovely; unfortunately, we didn’t have time to enjoy a drink in the evening. The hotel is located at the top of the high street, about a 10-minute walk from the marina. We have an electric car and were able to reserve a parking space with charging facilities, which was just perfect.
