"Great location in city centre"

8.0

The hotel was centrally located. It was clean and checking in was great. We booked a Li River cruise direct from the hotel and it was very convenient, cost effective and we went without a hitch.

"Pros and cons"

4.0

The room was basic basic basic! Think DIY construction with materials from a salvage yard. But it was cheap, so no real complaints on this score. But ..... the website specifically advertises complimentary bottled water in the room, standard practice in even the most basic hotels in China, and there was none there. Thinking this was an oversight I requested some at the reception desk where I was told "No water in rooms" and that I had to buy it from the vending machine. Service at reception varied greatly .... communication was generally adequate except for the "water guy," and the young ladies were always very helpful. Breakfast was not included in the rate, and a sign in the lobby lists the Chinese breakfast as 18RMB (3USD) and the Western breakfast as 30RMB (5USD.) I didn't see the sign on my first morning, so had the Chinese buffet, which was a bit limited but quite adequate. Other guests were told that same morning that there was NO western breakfast, and found a muffin, yogurt and coffee in a nearby shop, but I had no problem with getting the western breakfast the next day. The Chinese buffet is by far the better choice unless one insists on toast and fried eggs rather than boiled. One plus: The hard-wired internet connection in the room looked old and tired, but it was the fastest and most reliable I found anywhere in China, including 5-star hotels. But ultimately the thing that I will remember is that there was no bottled water in the rooms as advertised.

"Good location for Central Guilin"

6.0

Good location, very close to Elephant Rock and easy walking distance from the main town square. Some excellent and inexpensive noodle houses within meters of the hotel and an all night supermarket is opposite. Hotel was helpful and provided a room with three beds for the children. Staff very helpful at front desk.

"Close to Forbidden City"

6.0

This place is a minute on foot from north entrance of forbidden city. I took subway line-4 from beijing south train station and walked to my hotel. Its a 20 minute walk which i enjoyed. Line-4 also takes you to summer palace, which is fast and inexpensive way relative to taxi.

"Convenient & Affordable"

6.0

Very convenient location at an affordable price. Overall the hotel interrior is a bit tired, but it was comfortable and acceptably clean for the price. Most of the time the front desk could speak enough english to be able to communicate and tried hard to be helpful. Depending on what you want to do in this city the location is convenient. We had trips outside the area (rice terrace's & Li River Cruise), so in the evening this was a very convenient location to walk to the twin Pagoda Towers and an areas with shops and restruants. Overall I would suggest this location to those looking for a basic hotel at a very reasonable rate - nothing fancy.

"Front desk is no 10"

4.0

Not recommended for Westerners with no Mandarin knowledge. Front desk service appaling. Will not order taxi to bring us to airport as evertything is: cannot do! It was almost impossible to ask front desk for toilet paper as there was none when we checked into room. Staff at front desk should all be replaced with friendlier ones who can speak one or two words of English.

"Welcome to China"

10.0

English is a bit of a challenge for the staff, but they maintain a good attitude and help as much as they can. The room was clean and neat but there was a funky odor in the corridor. The breakfast is good and plenty if a bit unfamiliar to the western taste. Location can be a bit awkward because of the fences in the street preventing traffic from entering except with a long approach. Overall it is a fair value for the money and it provides a good emmersion into the local culture. It might not be the best choice for inexperienced travelers due to communication issues. I would consider staying here again because of convenience to scenic sites. Overall a pleasant accomodation but not luxurious.
