Hotel La Chance

Great location, the spa was a brilliant facility which we enjoyed using, generous breakfast

The staff were fantastic, very helpful, friendly and accommodating, especially Andre and the lady at reception. The location was great and only a 5 to 10 minute walk into the resort, although the resort was lacking in shops and restaurants. The hotel had a secure ski locker close to the lifts, enabling you to leave your equipment there each day. (See photo) The hotel was able to arrange everything for your skiing and were competitively priced too, compare to some shops offering ski hire. They also provided lift passes and lessons. Hotel arranged/made a birthday cake for me, for which my partner paid a separate fee. Views from our room were stunning. (See photos)

Feedback for the Hotel: The breakfast overall was poor to average. The Bain Marie used to keep the eggs and bacon hot was only warm, not hot and the food needed lids to retain the heat. The "Hot" food was always cold and this was a major disappointment and was not replenished often enough. This resulted in being left with the dregs, which was a major put off. The fruit bowl was not adequate and needed a better variety and fresher fruit. The coffee needed to be put into a proper thermal jug to keep it hot....this was often hot to warm, depending on how long it had been left there. Finally, some brown and tomato sauce for the hot food would be appreciated. One day there was no bacon at all and staff did not cook anymore when asked and for 2 days, there was no proper bread to make toast. There were no kettles in the rooms. My partner had to beg, borrow and steal a kettle each day from reception and return it the following morning. It would be nice if the hotel invested in Kettles and cups for the rooms, to make the stay more comfortable for guests. There was a large school party of 25 - 30 plus children staying for several days. They were extremely noisy during meal times, which put us off eating in the restaurant and the children were often running through the corridors, banging on doors and shouting during the late afternoon, when trying to rest in our room. I'm not sure if they are regulars or not at the hotel, but it would be nice if either the hotel or Booking .Com advised customers at the time of booking, if there was going to be a large party of school children staying during the same period. This gives customers the choice and option of cancelling or not. Honestly....had we have known, we may have cancelled our stay. Finally, we had to leave early and ask for a packed breakfast to be left for us. This was very poor and was disappointing, when we stopped at some services a few hours later to eat it.

Breakfast was as expected. It was plentiful and varied. Evening meal was truly exceptional. Each course was prepared with great skill and presented elegantly. Every morsel was both delicious and worthy of photographs. Almost every person we interacted with spoke at least some English, and several spoke very good English, which we really appreciated. Every space we were in was clean. We had a lovely view from our room. It was not far or difficult to walk uphill past the fun park, then cut through the church parking and walk uphill again on the access road, then up to the ski rental shop.

I would have liked the bed to be a little softer. As a side sleeper, my shoulders and hips started to bother me toward the end of my stay, and some nights it was difficult to get comfortable.

The stay at La Chance Hotel was excellent value for money could not of wished for anything more out of our stay. With booking a skiing trip for a group, the correspondence from the staff; in particular André in order to purchase ski passes and rent out skiing gear provided by the hotel was very much appreciated. The hotel provide a storage department near the skiing platform which is an extra bonus, we were all too happy to leave out equipment there instead of going back with it to the hotel each day. The spa facilities are also very good, and the massage on the Friday night after a week on the slopes was incredible. Good spread provided each morning for breakfast, starting at 8am thus on the slopes well before 9am.

The spa is free between 2-4, naturally you will want to avail of this offering however it creates a decision as ski resort opened to 5pm. So ski more or go to the spa? IMO it should be free all afternoon or not at all. The size of the room was a bit of the small size for 4 adults. Seats could be provided for both the room and the balcony.

1. SPA EXTRA CHARGE FOR GUESTS There is an extra charge for use of the spa after 16:00hrs. This was a surprise to us when it came to check out and cost 200 euros (50 euros for each day we entered the spa around 17:00hrs). Management waived this fee. We have looked back at the website and can see that, if you go into the SPA section, it states it is free to guests until 16:00hrs. I would say that most people don't go into each section of a hotel website and expect the spa to be included in the hotel fee. Furthermore, It doesn't say how much the cost is if you enter after 16:00hrs. The misunderstanding over this extra cost felt uncomfortable and very embarrassing. The cost of the spa after 16:00hrs was not made explicit in any information we were given. It could have been avoided if some key points info in English had been made available. We would never have entered the spa after 16:00hrs, had we known it would cost us 50 euros to do so. 2. NO INFO BOOKLET IN ENGLISH IN THE ROOM The folder of information in the room was entirely in Italian (apart from covid 19 info which was in English). There was no general hotel information in English. 3. Its advisable to pre-book restaurants in the area as they were very booked up (not sure if this is just because it was the Christmas/New Year period). 4. There needs to be an emergency out of hours number clearly posted in the reception area. Due to tiredness, we accidentally got locked out of our room on arrival with half of our belongings in our room! We ended up sleeping in the reception area for the first night from midnight to 07:00hrs! There was an emergency number on a piece of paper with the room key but it also got locked in the room! This was all our fault, but sleeping in the reception could have been avoided if there had been an emergency out of hours number on the wall in the reception, or on the website. It wasn't a good start to our holiday.
