The Lamb Inn

We have stayed here before on business on a few occasions...this time was disappointing for a few reasons : 1) it was a business trip ( and with the Middle East War, we needed to keep up to date with the news) , but the TV would not pick up even the basic BBC News Channel. A person came to sort it out, but it still kept cutting out. So we gave up on it. 2) The Wifi for phone calls was also intermittent, so I imagine it could have been a wifi problem. 3) The room had not been replenished with any tea/coffee and milk and we didn't notice this until the morning when we needed an early morning drink before work, around 7am. We couldn't get hold of anyone on the phone, so we had to go to reception to locate some ourselves. 4) Our room had snacks ( honesty box of goodies), which is a great idea, ideal if one is working and there is no time to stop, but the crisps we chose to eat were like cardboard...upon checking we found they were out of date. 5) The breakfast was not up to the usual standard and the Manager kindly sorted that out for us by cooking the eggs herself and actually refunded us for one breakfast ( which was a nice gesture but unexpected). 6) One of the rooms ( Suite) was situated in another building. We paid a premium rate for that but it was poorly sound insulated and the person in the next door room was possibly nocturnal as they could be heard walking around and moving things at various times during the night. Not ideal at any time but when on business it's particularly infuriating if you cannot have a good night's sleep. All in all we thought it was poor value for money as our Invoice was nearly £500 for 3 of us for 1 night, having only had pie and mash, fish & chips and a steak meal.

Absolutely terrible property would never book here again. I wished we’d stayed with the original property that we had previously booked.

For the one night we stayed we had absolutely no hot water or heating in our room. They placed us in a stone room outside of the main property, in the middle of winter which was beyond freezing. I may have just slept in my car overnight. My son had just had a kidney transplant and we were taking him away for a night as a treat for Christmas, so not only was it a complete disappointment, it was also totally unacceptable. When we tried to go looking for someone in the middle of the night to tell them of our situation everyone had disappeared and the property was closed up and everyone had gone home. Not even a number to contact should we need to. The free breakfast was also not free, everything on the hot menu is extra. I really urge to to think twice before booking this property as their customer service is shocking. I’ve tried 4 times to call booking.com for a full refund and nobody from the property answered the emails. I think they are just hoping I will go away.

Wonderful food for breakfast - great taste and great selection available. The location is superb, the atmosphere great and there's a comfy smell of woodsmoke that lures you in.

Room looked tired and needed some attention - however that's very different to other rooms I've stayed in at the Lamb.
