Nafplia Palace Hotel & Villas

The hotel location is fantastic and the view is the best you can get in Nafplio but the property is run down. The pool areas are furnished with extremely old cheap loungers and overall you get a feeling of abandonment. The rates are insane given the existing condition and the amenities.

This hotel is like a post-apocalyptic Stanley Kubrick film set. The brutalist modern design from the 70s is stunning and the views are unparalleled, but the actual hotel is closed because it need renovations - only the villas are open - and there is a sense that the property might literally be shuttered at any moment. We had only lukewarm water, the light in our room didn't work – nor most of the 20 70s-high-tech gadgets like the privacy screen in the bathroom – and the wifi was out both evenings of our stay, but when I asked the lovely staff about these issues, I was met with blank stares and in one case, a defensive attitude. There are three elevators from the hotel that travel from the top of the fortress where the hotel is located through bedrock down into the town. Two of them are "temporarily" closed for repairs and, based on past reviews, appear to have been so for 2 years. The elevator opens out into a sort of underground lobby that is beautiful in the pictures on the website but, in fact, is dank and covered in graffiti. When I went for an early morning walk, I found an escort because I was scared of getting stuck in the elevator alone, and because I didn't know what I'd discover when the doors opened into the abandoned lobby. I hope that this hotel is able to restore its origin glory as it truly is a beautiful facility. But, until they do, I was extremely disappointed that they billed themselves as a luxury facility - and charged accordingly.

An excellent escape from the norm.

Management of the company does not improve the property - everything feels like it was created in the 1970s. Complaints are acknowledged by the staff, but its clear that they've heard it all before, and cannot do anything about it.

positives: check in staff/restaurant were kind and friendly, the breakfast & view lovely,however, 1st room (we paid for the ambassador suite with private pool) initially given room 401. Size was great ,but, even for pre-covid standards the room was unhygenic. There was a sticky beverage spill down front of mini kitchen cupboard, the bathroom counters had staining, water and appeared to not have been cleaned. There were liquid stains around the toilet and running down wall behind the toilet. The room smelled very musty and unclean. The patio furniture was coming apart. 3 staff came to see and all agreed not to standard so bought us a drink while we waited another hour for another room (already past 5 pm). The next room was significantly smaller but cleaner. We were tired & took the room but it was not the 950-1150 sq foot size of ambassador suite, rather approx. 650 sq feet one bathroom sink, no sink/microwave. No renumeration for the difference in suite level, told it was ambassador suite but no ambassador suite online was close to that small. The pool had wall unit and jets to swim as a lap pool, they said never hooked up the jets & pool not heated, cold. No wifi reception - staff said that wing of hotel never has. It is problem for those needing to do any business or streaming. Elevators to the town were broken & driveway up hill too long and steep for most to walk. Had to drive & parking challenging in town. We chose this hotel for the last 2 nights of our stay in Greece to be the "star" of our trip - the photos of the pool really caught my eye but in reality the large pool was a strange turquoise and I never saw them clean it - so I was not keen to go in (and I swim everywhere!) and there was a lot of noise from the work they are doing in the port - 2 large cranes are dragging dirt up from the bottom of the sea and putting it on huge boats to be carried away - which makes a lot of noise (October 2019). The infinity pool in the photos is for use by the bungalow but it is small - smaller than you imagine from the photos. The staff are cold and professional but clearly this is just a day job and they look at every guest as a walking wallet rather than being warm and caring - the only hotel we stayed in where we felt like we were being given a favor that we could stay there - and the place was pretty empty! The only exception were the staff in the breakfast room who were lovely and attentive and very warm. Shame they can't replace the lobby staff! We changes rooms as the twin beds were fixed in place to the floor and around the fixtures the carpet was all threadbare and looked not very appealing... but in the end the other room they gave us was less nice and much more noisy - to sit on the balcony you felt you were inside other families, so we ended up moving back to the first room. The hotel is exciting - you are up on the top of the cliff with views but we didn't enjoy it

The Wi-Fi is very poor, only accessible in certain spots. The service was excellent and the food at the restaurant on site great!

This hotel is a very old hotel, late 60' early 70' I think. NO WIFI (only in lobby) I got a refurbished room. very nice. I got a glimpse on other rooms. not as nice. Common areas are remained old un-refurbished. Breakfast buffet was excellent. The best thing about this place, is the amazing view, overlooking the town and the sea. My room was very spacious and comfortable. Balcony with wood floor, very comfortable furniture, clear glass rail, breathtaking view. Air jet bathtub and a large shower. TV in front of bathtub. The location is very special. it is up on top of a hill, so must use a car (or taxi) for going down-town.

Beautiful hotel with an astounding view. We had a semi-private infinity pool that was icy cold. The hotel seemed a bit understaffed, but it was late September and there were not many guests. Breakfast was great.
